I downloaded the GPU client last night and left it on, when I checked it this morning it was like 13 mil / 25 mil but then I changed a simple setting and boom, it's back to fricken zero  I am willing to fold 8-10 hours a day since I have an x1900 video card that just sits there when I'm torrenting, but also don't want this sort of thing happening to me again as it's been a complete waste of my time and resources... If someone could explain to me if this happened because the graphical client for the GPU is highly unstable or some other reason I can't think of because of my Noobness ???

Honestly, I'm not sure..... I haven't used the GPU client yet (no money for a card).... typically, the console clients have always been more stable than the graphical ones.... but when you say you changed a setting, do you mean in the graphical client? or a vid card setting? something else?

It's possible that you changed something that effected the way the vid card was working and it said "oh... wait.... umm..... eh, start over" ;)

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

I changed a setting in the client using configure tool... I don't understand how this works anyway ? It never resumes, after I quit it always starts from zero as well so I wonder if I can keep my machine running 24 hours just so that the work is finished, I'm ditching this graphical client most possibly...

calling someone with GPU experience........ anyone............. Mary?

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!

Am getting something similiar right now, I made a new thread about it before I read this one.

I'll keep folding, not just with this client - Once I figure how to run it stably and resuming work as it should... I can keep folding 8-10 hours a day but I game for a couple hours, work for some 4-5 hours which all require GPU power, then I have to sleep and even at the idle mode the fan of the x1900 is too loud to bear during the silence of the night. Just show me a way to resume the work when it's not completely finished and I want to quit the client, that's all I ask for. :(

which button is report asshole post? ;)

Seems to happen for a number of reasons, short if you do anything (fast user switching/RDP/scrtch left nut) the client restarts from what I've been reading. Start 3d app/stop client/service etc.

Save point no workie from what I've read for the most part

Just understand that this is a BETA client. Stanford is trying to work out all the kinks that people are having out in the wild. Please go to the official forums and find the GPU section and see if anyone else is having this problem and post your system setup and problems. If you are new to folding then I'd recommend that you download the 5.04 client and just fold on your CPU. Just wait out the GPU client until all the issues can be ironed out.

Ok guys, thanks for the quick responses, this section of the forum is sure lively. I understand that this is a beta client but one I certainly cherished for two reasons...
1- Always wanted to fold but since I rendered a lot my cpu cycles were hardly empty. My gpu that I paid 3X the processor on the other hand is sitting idle some 10-12 hours a day so it's a great cause to channel wasted resources.
2- The theoretical power of the GPU is supposed to be enormous compared to the CPU, it's like having the power of a mini-renderfarm... I know that a modern day cpu like conroe is about 2 Gflops while an x1900xt is like 550 Gflops which I intend to run @ 650/1550 all the time...

So if I read this right you are using the graphical client?

I tried that one first but didn't have much luck. I've since switched to running the console version as an app and it's working. I can even restart and it will resume.

I just follow the directions here, perhaps that would work for you too?

Good Luck!

thx, I'll try with the other client and try to resume after an hour, if it works i'll stick with it. ;)
