newb question about resolution

hi guys, i ran this question through my other computer forums and you guys are my last bet because well, in my mind you guys know everything about computers.

i want to change my resolution in safe mode. currently, my resolution in normal mode is 1024x768, but everytime i boot into safe mode, it goes to 640x480. i want to change safe mode's resolution to 800x600 and i can't seem to be able to. even if i change it in the Control Panel, it does nothing. i have a Sapphire RADEON 9600XT vid card with CATALYST 5.9 and a 19" NEC CRT monitor which can support resolutions up to 1792x1344. thanx in advance guys. :)
 
You can't change the resolution in safe mode because no video card drivers are installed. Safe mode uses a default vga driver that every video card supports, thereby allowing safemode to know absolutely nothing about your hardware and still be able to function.

Even if it is possible to force safemode to load a driver for you video card, which I don't think it is, I would advise against it. Last thing you want to do is make safe mode unusable.
 
Exactly. Safe Mode is used for troubleshooting problems that you might encounter while running Windows normally. Safe mode loads only a minimum amount of things, and many normal Windows' components are disabled. Your regular graphics drivers being one of them. That's why you're only able to 640x480.
