please help me. i need to access some info. on an old 36gb SATA HDD.
i connected it to my friends comp so i could move everything from it to my new laptop. for some reason i can only get stuff from MY SHARED FOLDER. im thinking everything else is protected or locked. but i dont know how to "unlock" it.
thanks for any help given to a newb.

I forget exactly how to do it, but here's a starter:

First, you must disable simple file sharing:
My Computer -> Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Uncheck Use Simple File Sharing

Then

Right click the folder, go to Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner

And take ownership of the folder (I forget if you need the Administrator account, or if you can just use any account with full administrator privledges). Then you *should* be able to access the data.

I did this once before, and it is truely a pain in the ass. Tell me how it goes, I'm interested.

Hmm... reading your post again says that you are accessing the drive over the network. My fault, though I'll keep the above guide if someone else is interested in it.

All you need to do is:

Enable simple file sharing (Should be enabled by default).

Then right click the drive you want to share, go to Sharing, and enable the share.
