Im having a hard time trying to find the best performance for the money cooler to get my q6600 up to 3.0Ghz and be stable. I dont actually have any of the parts for my build yet, and the only thing I ordered was the q6600 itself as I didnt want the price going back up on Frys.com. There just seems to be so many, and I cant find any end all review to get a definite answer. Help a lost newb out? :D

I would say the xigmatek, those seem to be pretty popular lately and they are cheap.

what design flaws to look for in the cooler itself is the bottom base plate is it smooth. shiny and copper? heatpipe designs have been prooven to be significant in helping lower temps as well. and what cooler have u been intersted in looking at or buying?
Im new to this Duo And Quad core architecture and would like info on good aftermarket coolers too, would like to here some from an experienced oc'er/ modder =)

from your link on the third picture how come the heatpipe dont have a complete flat base to sit on the CPU? there seems to be gaps in the alluminum for the heatpipes i dont see a flat base for CPU contact, or am i missing something there? here is a pic of a cooler i'd get here, look at the mirror like finish and pure alluminum plate for great heat dissipation/contact.
can anyone post a pic of the Xigmatek's actual base and does it have a smooth finish?
also these guys pointing Xigmatek is good hows a review on it to back that up?
looking for one in the mean time...and good mouring

there were tests done in reviews of the heatsink i listed, and it is "almost" even with the best cooler out there, the thermaltake ultra extreme. and no, your not missing anything, its the new "bare heatpipe technology" lol.

seriously though, i upgraded my $70 zalman 9700 to this, cause this forum said it would improve cooling alot on my q6600. just waiting for it to get here.

Here's a good pic of the base of the Xig:

The red outline is the where the IHS of an Intel CPU would sit.

The pipes are the main facilitators for the transfer of heat. The aluminum base is just to secure the HSF to the CPU.

As for performance, it's the best HSF I've ever used (AC7 Freezer, Mini Ninja w/92mm Fan, GeminII 2x 120mm fan).

Xigmatek HDT-S1283, Antec 900 Case (closed and upright) Ambient Temp 21C:
