planning on buying a new video card... that supports High Def.
any suggestions please...

go nvidia theyre usually better
no, go ATI they are better. See what I did.

To the OP, when you say "Hi-Def" What do you mean? Do you want to play 1920x1080? If that is the case you should get a Nvidia Gtx260 or ATI 4870. If by hi-def you mean 720P then any Nvidia 8800gt or ATI 4830 will do.

Edit: If you want to watch Hi definition movies then you can get any ati 4000 series cards or any Nvidia 9 series card and they will accelerate HD playback. So a ati 4350 or Nvidia 9400. I have a soft spot for ATI so I say go with the 4350.

"Supports HD"?
As in movies (or just the resolution itself), or you plan to game at 1920x1080?

am making a pc for home theater and sound purpose.. not much gaming
and by HD I mean 1920x1080..
so what would be the ideal choice for this kind of setup????
thanks

If buying ATi get...
HD4550, HD4650, HD4670

If buying nVidia get...
8600GT, 9400GT, 9500GT

post #6 by sc3252 says what you need, last line.
If you never intend on gaming, as mentioned ^ the ATI 4350 is a very good option as it doesnt use much power, is silent and will do the job fine.
