Got this Venice 3000+ from Newegg Monday. It's a LBBLE 0515 FPCW. Currently doing 2800MHz and Prime stable.

nice OC, that's a huge bang for your buck, so what's your cooling setup to get these clocks?
 
Sweet! I just got my Venice 3000+ in the mail today! It's a LBBLE 0516 CPBW. Got it straight from zipzoomfly ($154 shipped). I'm hoping for similar performance, but we'll see. Hopefully my mainboard (DFI LPUD) and RAM (Twinmos) will arrive soon. :eek:

I'll be using the stock HSF, though. It looks nice for a stock sink. Lots of thin fins.
 
Hey, what's with that clockgen program? Do people overclock from windows nowadays? I'm still running an old P4 1.6A...using the mainboard BIOS, of course.

appears to be a Thermalright XP-90.

excellent OC! ill definately be buying the Venice core when i decide to upgrade. :D

and, yes, SKYY, you can use that ClockGen program to OC from windows:http://www.cpuid.org/clockgen.php

the only requirement is to have a specifically supported mobo. as long as you have one, youre good to go!

Cool. Is there any detriment to using it, compared to good-old-fashioned BIOS overclocking? What are the benefits?

no reboots (i dont think) to test the new OC. my guess is that if it isnt gonna work, then itll either crash right then and there, or let you know and automatically take the OC back down to a reasonable level. i may try this on my downstairs workstation (A64 3200+)

Titanium: what brand? specifics please.

btw, you should probably update your sig if this is gonna be your new permanent setup. :)

 
I think he wouldve had the same overclock on the stock HSF :) it's only at a measely 1.488 voltage :)

Yeah, this chip is amazing! IMO, now is a good time to pick one up while the steppings are still good. Remember the Winchester with the CBBHD (great overclockers) and the week 50+ that were CBBID (total S&%$)? ;)

Next week i'm going to install my watercooling and we'll see how far this baby will rock.

Yeah, Clockgen is great because it does everything on the fly and a reboot is NOT necessary. You overclock, tweak voltage, if it passes all your tests you can reboot and set it in the BIOS.

yah and if you have a gay motherboard that wont post for some reason over 230 fsb, you can reach 360fsb with clockgen, and if it's stable you can just use the ghost setting in clockgen and toss it in start up and kaboom! hehe
 
So, my guess is that people use ClockGen to see what their CPU can do, and when they find those numbers, they get rid of ClockGen and set the computer up through the BIOS?

That does not always work, more often than not an overclock is acheivable through clockGen or other programs through windows but if overclocked in bios it sees the overclock as a fault and resets itself, so it would be more beneficial to have a stable boot process and have an overclock setting loaded upon startup, many motherboard manufacturers have an overclock utility available on their respective websites.
 
^^^I dunno, ALOT of people do what SKYY describes. What I do is only IF the board has a wanky bios but OC's well in window, then I'll depend on clockgen. I dunno... he asked how people use it, I guess I can't prove myself right but I really think most people use it to crank away during benches when trying to find the sweet spot. Stable OC's make their way to the bios eventually and sooner rather than later.

Only my first nf4 (when they were trickled out infants), a chaintech, on it's shipping bios could only clock through windows. It also like to set my tRCD to 6 so I had to use nTune but I suppose now I'm getting off track. Next bios, a non crack smoking one, back to the routine. :D

Yes, that's what I do and it works pretty well with my DFI board.
