New to shuttle type systems

Hi,
I'm considering a upgrade of my current system which is a P4 3.0GHZ pentium. I'm thinking about the shuttle type system, I guess this is called barebone. If I'm incorrect please forgive me and correct me. But anyway, what in your opinion (I know we won't get 100% agreement) is the best and fastest system available from say Newegg or some reputable place like that. I'd also be interested in any and all comments and thoughts on this.

I just bought a Shuttle SN25P and after years of building PC's this was my first SFF and, well, this one was actually fun to put together. I'm impressed. Performance is great with a pair of Raptors and a 3200+ Venice @ 2.4ghz so far.

The SN26P is similar with SLI support and likely gets the nod for 'fastest', but that depends on which cup you go with. There's a bit of a price premium for a Shuttle but after going through about 25 configurations in practice and in theory I realized that for my needs a tower was out and a media center type SFF case wasn't what I wanted. I bit the bullet and am very happy I did.

I suggest you visit www.sfftech.com and read as much as you can on the forums.

I used to be a Shuttle lover but recently had my mobo die on me. I would reccomend against them. Read for yourself though, Shuttle has terrible support.

That is somewhat true but if you can get through to the right channels on SFFTech their Shuttle support there is greater than what you'd get from shuttle themselves.

@CRXican: did you post your problem on SFFtech? I haven't been on the forums in a while but the others will probably tell you to contact Linuxnutbox or some other shuttle rep to help you out wth your problem. and not to thread jack but what shuttle did you have and how/why did it die?

edit: @OP: How much are you looking to spend and what will you be doing with the PC? For Shuttle's in general I'd suggest SN25P for A64 939's, I don't know about intel though

I did post my problem, got shit for replies. Shuttle SN85G4V3, less than a year old but bought private party, he told me it was bough on newegg which means it's easy to get record, the asshole just ignores my emails now.

The machine was working great until my hard drive started having issues. I put in another hard drive and re-installed windows, worked fine and I did so without the ethernet cable plugged in. I shut down the system from the Windows desktop and plugged in the ethnernet cable as I knew I would have to do the Windows activation bit. Hit the power button, BIOS started, then for a split second some message popped up about LAN, too fast to read. The system re-booted itself after that but no more signal to the monitor. Despite switching ram, vid card, booting with hard drvie and optical drive disconnected, no more BIOS. I became more certain the mobo died when I realized it was no longer powering my MX Duo receiver. Sad story.
