I have an MSI Z87 board that I know supports a 4670K and would like to find out what is a low end CPU I can use for a 2nd board I traded for. Not planning on OC just like to get a second rig running.
Celeron G1840 $47 looks about "lowest" 1150 CPU.
Pentium come in two flavors,
Unlocked Pentium G3258K dual core is $70 but 15% off till 10/1, $60 seems worth while over Celeron's $47.
Greater resale value in future.
In general speed and iGPU performance rise with cost. I3 dual core offer hyperthreading.
You can get a performance gain with overclock on oem G3258K chip. stock 2.8 vs 3.2 GHz.
Thanks for the help, I am used to the multi generation MBs for AMD but there has been nothing of interest since my 8350.
I forgot to ask if which chips support both Hyperthreading and virtualization.
Hyperthreading is on the i7 and the i3, quad core w/hyperthreading, dual core w/ hyperthreading.
As far as virtualization, I'm not too sure which CPUs have it. But I do know, unlike AMD the consumer CPUs don't support ECC ram.
But a CPU recommendation, I would suggest that unlocked Pentium anniversary g3258 (dual core, unlocked, no hyperthreading, 3.20ghz) , and overclock that thing!
Ultra-m-a-n I just put one together for someone else with a 4670K and it if nice, but I am taking your advice, picked up a g3258 for $59.00 free shipping.
Thanks for the ideas.
