I am in the process of upgrading my old system and buying a new mobo, ram, cpu, case and psu.
Here is what I was looking at so far
CPU - AMD64 3000+ socket 754 (2.xGhz)
Mobo - MSI K8N Neo Platium w/nForce3 chipset
RAM - Corsair XMS DDR400 512x2 (1GB)
Case - Not sure. Want one with good cooling. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

So far the cpu, ram and mobo are under 500.00 :D
 
Well if you were wanting to overclock to get that bit extra, you might be better off with a socket 939 and 3000+ Winchester, which are meant to overclock very well.

If this is just to keep you going for a bit, there's nothing wrong with 754 to keep the costs down.

As for the case, I've got a Silverstone TJ05. It's got front and back 120mm fans and room for 3 x 80mm around the sides. It's a big bastard though and if you want a lightweight, compact case, look elsewhere.

Also - are you the same Sheik Yerbouti that occasionally plays on the SNL Enemy Territory server?
 
I prefer a mid atx case, and this is my tax refund that's funding it so... And, no, sorry, haven't played ET in a long time.
