Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is going to be a New sound card that will support
and use all the benefits of Windows Vista?

I believe any openAL compatible soudn card will do the trick but im not 100%.

Any X-Fi card. Any cards outside of that you'll lose support for DirectSound3D in Vista.

I'm just asking because my next door neigbor told me, that a new sound card will come out in 2007 to support the new windows vista

There is no card that "supports" Vista because Vista only handles DirectSound/DirectSound3D through software now. All sound cards will perform exactly the same in this regard (because the CPU will do all the calculations). Therefore, no sound cards in 2007 (or later for that matter) are able to "support" Vista (because there is nothing they can actually support, it is all done via CPU with Vista).

However, Creative has found a way to hack the drivers to intercept DirectSound calls and map them to OpenAL (which still is able to have hardware acceleration) and therefore will work exactly like it does under XP. So if you want to have a card that "supports" Vista, the only card that can do it (although through hacks) is the X-Fi series.

Yep, Creative wins again. :p Everyone now has to upgrade to the X-Fi series for Vista. Although I am still pretty happy that they found this hack (I guess it's because I have a X-Fi :D ).
