The router I bought two years ago is dead, Netgear Rangemax DUO wireless N. I've lived here for 6 years and now I am replacing a router for a third time. They seem to last 2-3 years and then die. Is that normal?

What is the current best router to get for home use? I will hard wire connect 2 computers and wirelessly serve Playstation, IPAD, 2 laptops, iphone, and printer.
 
Well, being a consumer product I'd says just about everything these days is build to die in 2-3 years lol. I wouldn't say it's normal though, maybe common, but no normal. If kept in a proper environment you can still have you Linksys WRT54G running smooth as butter flashed with DD-WRT with higher uptime than some business routers.

Of course I don't know much about the Netgear Rangemax to offer any solutions on any possible issues it may have, but where are you keeping it? If not already try keeping those suckers off the floor. They are usually passively cooled and barely do the job. Not uncommon to overheat and that'll pretty much instantly kill those little devices. Maybe stick it somewhere, if not already, away from other electronics kind of in its own zone.

As far as advice for another router. Given you're already on N I'd assume AC isn't a necessity. In that case there are a few choices I'd recommend that are solid and flashable.

both solid 802.11n routers. I can't really suggest AC since it isn't mature and really most products out there are pretty crappy/unstable right now.
