New Rig!

Just finished putting together my brand new beastly computer

I used to be quite active in the computer/benchmarking arena, but have been out of circulation for a good few years. Thats a lifetime for computers as most everyone here knows.....

Im interested in running some benchmarks to test the new rig out and make sure everything is running properly. Nothing is overclocked yet and its all stock.

Anyhow....what benchmarks are the currently recommended ones for CPU/GPU/Storage/etc.....?

Also, what program are currently best for OC'ing a GPU, as well as checking CPU stability, CPU/GPU temps, etc...?

New rig hardware:

CPU: I5 3570K

Mobo: Asus P8Z77- Deluxe

Ram: 4 x 4 GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3 - 2133

GPU: EVGA 680GTX 4gb

PSU: Corsair HX850

Storage: OCZ Vertex 4 SSD 512gb

Case: Coolermaster HAF XM

The only thing that I dont have fully installed as of yet is my Asetek 570LX CPU cooler. Im waiting on a retaining bracket and currently on the stock intel cooler just to get things up and running.

On a more specific note, Im a little concerned my SSD isnt performing up to spec. I am using a 6.0GB/S Sata cable and plugged into the Marvel SATA 6.0 GB/S connector on the mobo, but it doesnt "appear" to me to be as fast as I expect it to be.

Any overall advice/input recent info appreciated. Im out of the loop by years and need some direction.

For the ssd you want to plug into the intel sata ports for the best speed..

I don't know your exact board or situation, but typically the Marvel controllers are gimped. Use the Intel ports...

As said, you want to use the Intel SATA3 (6GB/s) ports, which I believe are gray (they are on my Pro, check your manual). The reason is that the ports are handled through the PCH (platform controller hub, could consider it the new Northbridge) with a better interface to the CPU. Also, Intel's drivers are superior for performance. Only use the 3rd party SATA ports if you run out of Intel ones. You'll also want to install the latest Intel RST drivers at http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=21407

Benchmarking:

- System/overclock stability: I use LinX and Prime95. LinX is a front-end for Linpack which is also used in IBT (Intel Burn Test), make sure to get the latest libraries that include AVX extensions, also goes for Prime95 (27.7 is latest)
- SSD: I use CrystalDiskMark, run it both with random and non-random data sets, keep in mind if you use your SSD for your OS, you will not get the same speeds that reviewers who are benching the drives raw get, but it should be close.
- GPU: I use 3DMark11 to get a general idea of where my system is at compared to similar ones. I use Heaven for GPU OC stability.
