got power?

i have a DELL 4600, no laughs please... just upgrading the wimpy 250W PSU in anticipation of the new beastly GPUs. I have about 100 bucks, which after a lil browsing seems to be a boat load of $, so whats the best i can do?

I'm not 100% sure ill get a NV40 or R420, i might just get a 9800XT or 5950 if they come down in price... Do alot of gaming, and planning a new HD.

Thanks for the suggestions,
-P

You can upgrade to any standard ATX PSU.....such as Antec, ENermax, Fortron and Vantec....depends on your budget....just make sure the 3.3V+5V have a combined wattage of 260 and the 12Vrail that has 20-30+amp this is the rail that graphics cards and cpus mostly rely on.........

I replaced my 250W Dell PSU with an Enermax 470W Noisetaker...this PSU has 2x12V rails rated at 31Amp and would be nice to your 4600 coz its a midtower case....tha wires arent too long and are braided.........it has enough juice......

I was referring to his post and not to all the peeps who own dell.......He can stick any standard PSU he wants to and it's compatible.......It's better to be safe than sorry......

If that is the case, then wouldn't it be a bad idea to replace a power supply in an OEM system? (especially one that is made by a company who was not running in ATX spec)

If I was in the same situation, I would just upgrade the video card and if I had problems I would call tech support, that is why you buy an OEM system.

way to miss the point kleptomaniac, i've done the research,

I was actually refering to wattages and brands, it says "newbie cheese" but im not completely oblivious, save the sinicism for someone else, thanks for the replys never the less..

i picked up a Antec TRupower 430, went in like a charm, the 480 wasnt much more should i even consider it, im still listenin if there are any lesser known brands someone might wanna turn me on to... till next time

thanks again
