hi,
ive just started to notice that whenever i do anything that requires instant power, such as loading a program, or even just opening IE the Fan lights on my CPU fan start to flicker like crazy
i presume this is because the power supply is being used up elsewhere in the system, or is this normal?
if i need a new psu, could anybody reccomend a good one, thats not too overpriced.
i have been looking at one made by "Super Flower" - a 520W 4 fan silent psu. (http://www.super-flower.com.tw/)
has anybody had any experience with these?

cheers

Matt

The Rig in your sig wont require over 300w so i would look into a Antec True Power 430w or Fortron 400w at the very most.

What PSU do you have now?

a Q-tec 350
/me bows head in shame i was told not to buy one as they are terrible.
but i needed a new one desperately as the one that came with my case blew up

Just pick you up an Antec 430w for around $70 and you'll be set. You can get a 350-400w Fortron for even cheaper and they are very good also.

Going from one brandex peice of garbage to another won't fix much of anything for you.

If you're trying to go cheap, I would strongly suggest Fortron Source's FSP-300 model, found on the egg
here which will cover all of your current needs very well. It will pass the "redneck quality test" rather handily.

IMHO, go get the Antec 430 True Power and your system will have enough power.

well, the antec seems to be the way.
im all the way over in sunny england :D so i think i shall buy one from ebuyer, i like the look of the 480W Blue LED antec one, but its all of £85!!! which must equate to about $150!!!

Well... you blokes do pay quite a hefty VAT- here in the states, you can generally find them between $95-$110, USD that is, if that helps.

I beg to differ, the TTGI "superflower" is made by enermax (same factory) and far from garbage from what i've soaked in. Directron has the 520w model as low as $62.99 . If you want one with extra features, here's the main linkie to some higher wattage models. I'm not saying that its as good as a truepower or whatever but its good quality nontheless.

A list of decent stuff would be:
PC Power & Cooling (the best but super $$$)
Antec true (a very close 2nd place)
Fortron/Sparkle "FSP series" (same factory)
Enermax/Kingwin/Atomic Kiss/CaseArts/Coolmax/TTGI "Superflower" (same factory, quality may vary of course)
Thermaltake/Enlight (same factory)
Vantec
Zalman

Edit: Just noticed your're a John Bull ( a Brit :p ) but you can use my links as a reference

85 pounds?! Man I feel sorry for you, that equates to around 155 USD. Here in the US it is $84 when ordered from newegg, probably 95 retail in Best Buy or other retailers.

But I'd place my vote for an Antec PSU, my only PSU that wasn't Antec already died.

yep, stuck with a price of around 150USD for a PSU isnt nice at all.
unless....
i use paypall to send one of you septics (septic tanks....yanks) some of the green, and get you to post it :D
hehe, or maybe not.

i believe antec is the way, cheers guys :)
