Hey just built my pc yesterday, (specs in sig)

I was wondering if anyone knew a good guide on overclocking with UEFI, I have never overclocked before and wanted to give it a try. Also if I can remember, it was sitting at 80F idle, and thats with the H80 liquid cooling, is that normal? Im not sure. I could have read it wrong, currently I am at work so I will check again when I get home, but my buddy told me that it might be a lil high for idle temp with H80. I am using the HAF 922 case.

Yeah, thats 27c so temp looks good.

Not sure on the I7 OC'n though.

Why do you have something about win 98 in your sig?! hehe

thanks for the reply, ok so the temp is fine then, thats makes me happy, and i put win98 just to see if anyone would notice haha =]

Yeah, whenever we talk about temps, it's always in C.

When you start your overclocking, use a mix of LinX max memory (also known as IBT and OCCT Linpack) and P95 small FFT. P95 will stress your CPU cores. LinX will stress the memory controller, RAM, and CPU cores, but in a different way from P95.

Use some sort of temperature monitoring program. Coretemp and Realtemp are two popular options. Your maximum safe load temperature is 100 C before the CPU starts auto-throttling, but most people want to keep things at 80 C or less.

I do have to question your choice of overclocking board though. The board has no heatsinks on the mosfets to keep them cool, and once you start increasing the vcore, those mosfets are going to get hotter, possibly to unsafe levels. If you're shooting for around 4.5, then it'll probably be fine, but for 5, I would seriously consider getting a better board.

Yea I was looking online that intel recommend that the vcore be no higher than 1.425 so I have it overclocked to 4.5ghz (about 1.34vcore is what shows up on cpuz), also I just built it this week and pretty much done and finished I wouldnt want to replace my board haha, I mainly game and stream so a higher overclock is probably not necessary, 4.5ghz is probably overkill anyways haha. world of warcraft and streaming xbox on xsplit is my main priority

I'm running at 4.8ghz w/ 1.42v Idle, 1.37v load. (Voltage changes due to what's called vdroop.)

That vcore should be fine. You most likely can drop it down a bit and stay at 4.5, actually. Well, depending on your LLC setting. If you have LLC completely off, your voltage might be right where it needs to be (it will drop by about 0.7v under full load, maybe a little more).

Tightening up your vcore is your call, but I like to do it because you will improve your temps and the life of the chip. Just remember to only go in increments of 0.1v and stress test with a max memory setting each time.
