Well, finally hopped up from point-and-shoot pocket tweeters to what is arguably a "Real Camera."

So after months of hounding this D70s and comparing it to others, e.g. the Digital Rebel... I decided to go for the Nikon out of just personal preference. Well, it's here, along with the stock 18-70mm lens, and a 2gb 50x kingston card. Plus a few accessories like a UV filter and a nice case.

And as a photo n00b, I gotta say... I feel godlike with this thing in my hands. The amount of options at my disposal... aah! I know all the settings in theory, but little in practice. However, I've already managed to get some nice pics in.

In the long run, if photography develops into a big hobby, I know this will be just a backup body. But as an infant in the world of SLR, I am damn impressed with the added power.

Initial pro's and cons:

Pro: Features... dSLR is all i gotta say. Interface, very easy and even the most miniscule settings can be handled with no menu shuffling, just a few buttons. Quality: again dSLR is a new world. Crazy auto-focus.

Cons: Huge bitch. Heavy and bulky. Of course i'm comparing it to Elph tweeters.

Haha, that's a nice camera (though I had wished they decided to upgrade to compete with the Rebel XT, instead of just using the same things as in the D70). I use a D70, just got it about 5 months ago, still on the edge about wanting to spend $700 for a used 80-200.

Where are the pics? :D

Yeah... but it still competes. I've used them both, and I can't say one's overwhelmingly better than another... but the Nikon feels a bit more solid for me. And the stock lens is far better.

The D70s didn't do much over the D70 other than a slightly bigger screen, a wired remote port, and a few menu enhancements. But the thing is still a beast.

If you do much indoors make a sb-600 or sb-800 a priority. They're wonderful.

Good choice, it was a hard decision for me too...But I went with the Rebel XT. Love it
