I was cooking yesterday (yes, geeks can cook :eek: ) on a non-stick frying pan, and I suddenly thought "wouldn't this surface make a nice mousepad?"

So is there anyone [H] enough to cut up a non-stick frying pan for a mousepad? Gotta watch out for the Moms/girlfriends/wives so they don't catch ya, but it felt like it would be worth it!
 
I believe non-stick frying pans are coated with teflon. Why not just get a piece of steel or cast iron and coat it with teflon (then you don't have to ruin an expensive frying pan).
 
I'd agree and love to do that, but I think that coating stuff in teflon is a rather difficult and expensive procedure in and of itself
 
How would this differ from a steel mousepad and some teflon tape, both of which are readily available and do not require chopping up cookware?

I don't mean that meanly, I'm just saying... it's not really a "new" idea, its just a highly difficult and unnecessary way to create an already available product. just my .02
 
An ARMORED mosepad! :cool: I think the thing would last forever. Maybe a re-coat of teflon once in a blue moon.
 
Prob the easiest way (since I eally dont know what would be involved in the "black" teflon coatings) is to use straight teflon spray on top of the "mousepan" (or fryingpad):D coating, that you can buy from an auto-parts store. The friggin' mouse would probably feel like it was on ice.
 
Didn't even know they made that :p yeah i'm really tempted to go find a cheap frying pan and try this out :cool:

Teflon coated mousepad would be a pretty cool idea really. It would work well since in order to get teflon to stick to metal you have to blast the metal to produce a textured surface, so precision on optical mice would improve naturally. Teflon isn't really expensive or hard to get, but it does require a lot of preparation to prepare the surface and then it has to be baked at 800F to make it stick.
 
Just a note, teflon is a carcinogen when inhaled, so if you go chopping up a frying pan I would suggest wearing a breathing mask and cleaning up after yourself very well.
