I'm about to pull the trigger on a Supermicro X8SI6-F and an i3-540 but thought I would ask the people here whether there is a better option in the near future (< 1 month). Specifically, i've been looking at the socket 1155 cpus but it doesn't seem like there are any server boards for that socket yet.
Mainly, I'm looking for compatibility with an HP SAS expander (a board with an lsisas2008 chip) and something in the ~$400 range for the two.
My current setup is:
Norco 4224
gigabyte ga-ep45-ds3r
aoc-saslp-mv8
hp sas expander
8 gigs of ram
with 14 hard drives at the moment.
It is running linux and I have two raid6 arrays using mdadm. One 6x1.5tb raid5 and one 7x2tb raid6.
Those that have been following the mv8 and sas expander threads may know that I have been having issues with the two. I'm unsure whether it's compatibility (which it shouldn't be) or defective hardware. I've tried everything suggested and tried to swap out as many parts as I could to no avail. Hence, I decided the only thing I can do at this point is to throw money at it.
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed.
