a new chipset is already coming from intel, the 925x?! what's the point in me upgrading from my 875chipset to a 915 or 925 if they already got something new coming, all i think is worth upgrading to is the pci e new slot? does anyone else thing things are moving at speed of light at intel, can't they decide on one chipset and stick with it for a while before changing and changing to a new chipset so soon?

do you guys think amd has a more stable plataform?

I think you mean the i925XE. A few months ago, Intel rolled out its i915 and i925 series, including the i925X. The i925X is essentially the same as the i915 series of chipsets, except that it only supports DDR2 (versus DDR and DDR2), and that it supports the x86-64 "64-bit" Prescott Pentium 4s that will soon arrive. The i925XE expands on the features of the i925X by adding support for a 1066 MHz system bus, compared to the 800 MHz bus that Intel has had for about a year. That's the only change.

Intel is simply responding to AMD's aggressive performance increases over the past year or so. At this point, they are behind in many applications, so they have every reason to push harder and harder. From the consumer's perspective, you don't have to worry much. The i925XE chipset will only be found in the highest-end Intel desktop systems, and will be very expensive. Also, the only processor available (?) right now that has 1066 MHz system bus is the Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.46 GHz, which costs about $1000 right now. When other Pentium 4s with 1066 MHz system bus come out, don't worry, a more down-to-earth chipset will accompany them.

As for whether or not AMD is more or less stable, of course it depends on the definition of stable, the conditions, the experience of the user, etc. Generally, the two competing processors and supporting hardware are very stable compared to how it was in the past. I would consider stability a non-issue in deciding which desktop platform is best for you.
