Hey there...this is my 2nd Photoshop job (but first big one)...I made this wallpaper from scratch...no plug-ins at all...I just started learning PS this summer semester...we just learned the basics in my Intro to Mac class...how am I doing??? Is this the kind of work usually done by a PS n00bie???

The only thing I can think of that would improve this is if I had a much better Matrix Code" font...anyone know of a really really really good "Matrix Code" font (the gibberish in the background)...THANX
C'YA

47 VIEWS AND NO FECKING COMMENT?!?!?!?!? Damn you 47 ppl!!! Come on...Say SOMETHING...was it good or bad or WHAT?!?!? I'll take it down if no one starts to comment on it... :( :(

its pretty good for a first time, although the text looks a little bit filtery, try not to use filters that completely change things, keep it at nouse/blur/sharpen and those little ones. Also the spots in the code look a little bit odd, kind of make it un matrix like and more smooth and I just dont see the matrix like that. Also you used a cliche kind of theme, but thats ok :)

Personally I dont like it, it doesnt catch my eye.... Nice work though, I can imagine it took a chunck of time.

This wallpaper is not horrid. It is what one of my varsity pals used to call "arb". We've
seen this done a million times, in a million ways.

I do not wish to discourage you, I do however wish to guide you toward better reviews of
your work. Do not post your second PS exercise unless you're a gfx prodigy. Get your
ducks in a row, hone your skills to a razor edge, get your ideas to a point where you know
at least three people will be impressed with your concept even if your execution is lacking.

After this compare what you have to offer with what is on display ... it does not make
one's life more pleasant to post grotty domo-kun chops in a forum packed wall to wall with
Digital Art SuperGawds.

I am also a moderator at an invite only art-forum ... with members like these:

...who rip each other's awesome work to shreds in constructive critiques, it is very hard to
get excited about people who have spent neither the time, nor the effort that these pros
have invested in their craft.

So spend the next month really learning the raster tool of your choice (and if
you're really serious about graphics, learn a vector tool first). And by learn I mean
research it like a [H]ard|OC'er would research cooling technology, do tutorials on every
single tool if you can find them, you could even invest in decent literature.

And please, never ever regurgitate the contents of a single tutorial as if it was a master-
piece, you are supposed to learn a technique or a skill from a tutorial, which should be
applied in conjuction with other skills and techniques to make a real masterpiece.

Typography, colour theory and composition are topics that you can study in addition to
knowing your tools, this should improve the overall aesthetic appeal of your work.

To become a [H]ard GFX ninja takes years of dedication and practice, only when the
student has absorbed all the tuition, and only when the student is able to gracefully
and effortlessly apply the tuition, can he/she graduate to GfxMaster.

Good luck in your quest! ;)

Wah Wah Wah Wah Wawawawawawawawaaaaaa....

Looks like you hit your bandwidth limit, wish I could see it to actually comment...

As Lord Hyperion said, we've just seen this done way to many times... considering this is your second Photoshop job we understand that you must have put alot of work into it. But, it lacks originality. Keep up the good work, and keep posting your work for critiques, you'll get better and better, and pretty soon you'll see where we're coming from commenting like this. Keep working!

Ya know what??? I figured that not many ppl would like it cause so many ppl have done it in the past...should have picked something different...but that's not what I am really interested in...what I'm interested in is the quality...if this was the first one of its kind then how would you rate it...I'm planning on doing another one...dunno of what tho...any ideas??? Maaybe something with fire...fire is cool...

Tell you what Metallica_Band, why don't you work towards a goal?

Pick a practical graphics assignment, let's say "Make a decent WinAmp skin" or
something similar, and work toward that goal, posting progress images, and request for
comments.

quick fire img:

Nice fire...but you've got a piece of fire in the middle of nowhere all by itself to the right of the fire...see the line???

yeah... that's umm... a spark! That's it, it's a spark ;)

Like I said, it was a quick image that took 10-15 mins. I also notice a couple parts in the flames where I messed up. 5 mins of editing should fix that though...

the quality of your image is very good, it has a nice blend and everything, the only thing that got me down was the matrix theme. i'm sick of that theme, thats why i like the flame one better it matches the color of hard forum nicely and is somewhat different. anyway for a beginner its very good in my opinion. try something with an [H] in a circle at an angle to the topright of the screen with fire coming from it in 3d. then make the flames come out of it from the top right to the bottom left with the matrix data in the fire but matching the colors of the flames. that would look real cool. anyway just my 2 cents.

Lord Hyperion - Thank you very much for the resource's. I ahve been playing with PS for years but I have really got into it over the last 3 months to enhance my Digital Photographs. I am a camera guy and post production editing is something I have never even considered...Now that I am getting some awesome shots I am starting to do some real work with PS. I made my first texture after 3 weeks of strictly reading and playing.

Your resources have provided soooo much more resource material and tutorials. My hat of to you sir, Thanks.

No slight intended to you Metallica_Band. Your list is a definitive list and encompasses a TONNE of reading. Your resource list will keep me going for a LONG time. I thank you too, dont know what I would do without such a great community as the [H]...wait I remember a dark time when I didnt have it. What a boring time THAT was.

Oh gee...thanx for complementing me...

Metallica_Band, that is a formidable array of links!

In fact I think it may be a tad intimidating. Since quite a few of your sites were created by
artists that I know personally, and can therefore vouch for the standard of their work, my
much abbreviated list may have appealed to Kroz's sensibilities and/or requirements.

If it would repair your injured pride: "Massiv respek fo yo links Bruvva!" ;)

if it is any consilation, metallica, your hardforum matrix wallpaper has temporarily replaced the dell branded one on my laptop.

you have one helluva learning curve ahead of you, but that doesn't mean you won't have fun rastering your rasters and vectoring your vectors ;)

I wish i could do something like that.. and i mean both picutres.. not to mention the links...

aaah :(

Did you use the clouds filter? I can see a pattern which looks like a clouds filter was used..

Ugh...for the second time I didn't follow a tutorial to the letter...I actually used a combination of two tutorials with some modifications that I experimented with...and the text I just found somewhere...not the best text but oh well...now go look at my 2nd wallpaper in another thread if you haven't already done so and comment on it too
