New guy, qpack, matx help!

been reading the unofficial matx guide but i cant seem to get a definitive answer,

basically i have a qpack from aspire i have a 6600gt by leadtek it is pci-e i have 2 gig corsair platinum, i am buying an opty chip but dont know what, either a 144/6/8 an clock it to the max or a 165 and leave it stock. my problems are...

1) i still aint got a clue what board to buy. any help? i want simply the leading matx board. there must be one clear winner... which is it?

2) i have a hiper type R 580w modular, will it go in the qpack or do i have to sell it?

thanks again for the newbie help. this is my first micro build, it will be plugged in to my 50" HD samsung and i will be using it for browsing, watching films in AVI and other formats, and mainly playing BF2. (maybe i should of stuck a 7800 in it??)

Im having the same dilema as you. Weather to go with the Foxconn 6150, or the DFI RS482. I plan on getting a 170 or 175 and OCing it to about 275MHZ FSB and run 1:1 with OCZ Platinum EB PC4000. Which would be better? For maybe larger OCs in the future. Stability?
 
Exactly the same rigs that i have been looking at, same boards keep rearing the little heads.
the 6150 seems to be only benefitting by the fact it has a 6150 GPU but i am not interested in its On board gpu as i have card to put in it, the DFI and the biostar 6100 keep popping up. problem with reviews are they are only good for the day they were written.

today is the 1st of may 2006. what is the best MATX to go with a opty 165 and a 6600GT, i want to overclock and i want to play games! comon guys help a dude out!

6150 has giga LAN :)

I am not sure the 6100's all do.

I thought http://www.sffclub.com/index.php?option=com_mosforms&Itemid=63 was a good listing for AMD boards (i don't have the Intel up or the OCing stuff)

Go with the Biostar
 
the qpack takes a regular atx psu, so unless your psu is abnormally longer like some ocz's, you should be ok.
 
These are all good links guys thanks very much, so i now know that my psu will fit in the qpack which is great!
but the original question, in the ATX world, which i have just come from, there is ONE board for the extreme. DFI Lanparty Expert leads the field. easily.
what is the equiv in the MATX now. i am seeing 3 or 4 boards being mentioned, they cant all be as good as each other.... can they? as for a dodgy NIC on the biostar, that is unacceptable as that will take up a much needed pci slot!

ok ok ok.

I made the leap, i have just bought 2 AMD Opteron 146 processors (they were a good price so got one for each comp!) and i went for the foxconn 8EKRS 6150, hope this is a decent rig as i want to get 2.5 out of this system without breaking a sweat!

Read this post on overclocking and you should be set. 2.5ghz on air is quite doable, probably higher if the 146's are good ones.

I'm running a couple of DFI RS482 boards and they overclock quite nicely, as does the Biostar TForce6100-939 that I've built.
 
I like my biostar 6100-939. Got a 144 opt doing 293x9 3htt@ 1.45v in bios but it undervolts so like 1.42 or so. Using 4 heatpipe stock amd cooler. Doing 28 idle and 45 load but my room is hot. No nic problems with this board that i have seen or heard.
 
to elaborate on the hiper fitting or not:
the hiper will not fit even with the shortest optical you can find. the connectors itself look to be 1-2 inches and the size of it is 158mm and thats 2mm shorter than the ocz modstream. you not only have to consider the length of modular power supplies but also the length of the connectors, position of the connectors on the face, and how easy it is the manipulate the cables.
 
my optical was an external sony that i ripped out, it really is quite small, maybe i will be buying a new psu to! thanks
