I'll keep poking at this, but most of the knobs have been covered and being on a Dell box means I'm limited in tweaks and overclocking. For the current WUs, a 2600/3600 series GPU seems to be the best bet. As proteins get larger, the 3850 AGP may look better on this system. On AMD+Nforce3, things look pretty good with the 3850.

I offered it to you once and will again. If you want the P4 ASUS mobo etc its yours to test and keep. If it helps the cause and all those P4's out there wishing they could produce some nice #'s I'd gladly donate it.



 
Thanks, but I am gaining a small stack of configs already here to play with and I now have a config that matches you pretty closely. It's actually nice to have another person trying out things as well to see if we can close on a solution. ;-)
 
Well if its a chipset issue then mine must suck. I have a 2.4GHz Athlon X2 (which would be faster than your 2.2GHz Athlon) and my GPU utilization is still at about 45 - 55%. You would have thought a AMD 580X chipset would work better than (or at least equal to) a Nforce 3!:confused:

I even installed the new 8.4 drivers today thinking that that might help, but it looks to have had no effect.

Have you tried updated chipset drivers vs default Microsoft ones? You are still doing a little better than Sunin, but not as good as my config. This seems to really point to chipset limitations. I'll keep poking at things, but we might have to wait until larger WUs before we can really make the call on 3850s running.
 
Do you have any P4 that is performing well I was wondering if it is actually pentiums that are having issues. Hmm maybe I'll have to hunt down a mobo off ebay for this box. Which one's are performing best?

Sunin, you might want to drop a nice low-voltage A64 combo in that box or just wait for larger units.

The P4s in the above link don't seem to be performing any better than with the older cards supported by the GPU 1 client. Certainly not worth swapping cards for the newer architecture. We'll see how the client progresses.
 
I don't know if this has been asked already, but is there any news regarding support in the new client for the upcoming 4000-series architecture (R7x0)? Thought I'd ask since the latest news seems to point to an early release of these cards likely sometime next month.

 
Any eta on the less CPU intensive client?

 
We're getting there, lots of testing. No ETA, other than the usual ____. Who knows the reference: "When will then be now?" and can fill in the blank?

Cool Mhouston if you could give us all a heads up when it does go live I try to visit the site often, but would love to test out the new client even as an early beta.

 
After 22 consecutive WUs, my GPU2 client is now waiting for work. :(

Well I guess I will be trying the new gpu client this weekend. Setting up my opty 165 with 3870. Will report back with numbers sunday.

 
I'm having EUE's with the new 2794, 2795, and 2796 WUs. Any ideas how I might troubleshoot this to see if there's a problem with my system? I don't have any issues with the 47XX WUs - I can crunch these all day and night long. I haven't had any CPU WUs EUE yet either.

I read somewhere, possibly on another forum that some of the WUs for the GPU2 clients aren't stable. This is possibly what you're encountering.

Boy, is Stanford going through a rough period. Bad WUs, stats issues, server infrastructure buckling.... :eek:

I've had the GPU2 client running stable since it came out on a p4 and 3850 never had an issue. So definitely will vary.
