Hi everyone, new here...I have been gaming all of my life, mostly on consoles. I decided to ramp it up a notch. Does this sound like a decent PC to start with?

Intel Core i7-6600k 4 Ghz
Asus Maximus VIII motherboard
G.Skill 16gb DDR4
Samsung EVO 250gb SSD
Western Digital 2TB hard drive
Nvidia 970gtx
Super SC ACX 2.0 video card
Thanks for your comments!

Unless you want to massively overclock or run multiple GPUs for some 4k gaming, I don't think you need that overpriced motherboard. You can probably go $100 cheaper:

And you can save another $100 with the Core i5.

Still overclockable if you ever get the urge, and you won't notice the difference in games without going multiple card, or120 Hz monitors.

Also, be sure that you get DDR4 at least clocked above 2400. This review shows a sizable performance increase, depending on title, which is the first time in awhile that we've seen such a difference. Definitely get the good stuff :D

Everything else looks good. The GTX 970 EVGA ACX 2.0 is not the quietest cooler, so if noise is a concern look at Asus, MSI or Gigabyte.

EDIT: also, what were you planning to use to cool that processor?

Cheap option:

Dead silent option:

Thank you for the advice, I am just going all out for longevity. The Scythe is actually what I ordered lol. I am excited!

What case and PSU are you going with?
Very important question here. The power supply will make or break your gaming rig. Don't cheap out on a power supply. Look at the requirement of the video card and the power needed to drive it. On power supplies, look at the specs for the 12v rails that they have enough amps. I'm guessing here, but 40+ should be enough. Don't just look at the watts.

Looks good on all aspects, but i would go with 8 gigs ram and adding a few bucks for a 980. What model of Maximus VIII do you have in mind? I'm asking because you could easily go with the cheapest one, the Ranger.

Cheers
