Hey guys,

Ever since December last year I have been looking to buy a new monitor, In fact I bought 4 monitors which I was forced to return due to what I thought to be deal breaking problems. My current monitor is a HP x2301 and although is nothing special for some reason I have not been able to find a monitor to match its quality no matter how much money spent. I wouldn't even consider replacing it however it's having a few problems which can't be helped.

Now I have been looking into a nice G-sync screen as I have 2 Nvidia GTX 780 Cards which could benefit from but I am not sure which screen currently is best to go with. Currently I'm keeping my eye on Acer Predator XB240H 24" G-Sync 144Hz and BenQ XL2420G 24" G-Sync 144Hz however I have seen some comments on these forums about poor washed out picture quality and really bad black levels which is what keeping me from purchasing them. I am not a competitive gamer but I do like to have G-sync however I am not sure of the quality of these screens, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

P.S The previous monitors I bought and returned was the Dell U2414h and Dell U2415 and both of them suffered from Horrible Back light bleed, uneven brightness and washed out picture quality even after resolving the RGB Colour Output to 0-255.

I could be wrong about this but my guess is that they are probably both using the same panel so image quality wise I would say they're probably very close to each other. Last time I checked the XL2420G was going for around the $550 mark which is kind of steep for a 1080p display. I would recommend saving up a little bit more for the Asus PG278Q or Acer XB270HU which are both 1440p displays and will have much better image quality and will last you longer as well.

I have saved up to £1000 to use for a screen upgrade so buying the asus one is no problem for me. But I have read about the major problems with the PG278Q and I am not a hufe fan of IPS displays, on top of that I really would like a 1080p Screen as I don't plan on upgrading my GPUs any time soon.

Having said all that is there any other screen you could recommend?

P.S i really doubt that both Displays use the same panel but I am not 100% sure

The 24" 144Hz screens are built for speed and decent image quality. If you want 1080p and GSync they are your only option. MistaSparkul is probably correct that these monitors use the same panel. The difference will be in price, manufacturer's reputation for customer service and quality control.

These monitors usually come with whacky color calibration out of the box, so you'll need to play with the settings to find what you like.

EDIT:
If you want to see how the panel looks, find a store in your city that has display models for any of these monitors:
BenQ XL2411Z
BenQ XL2411T
BenQ XL2420T
Asus VG248QE

Thank you for your reply, In regards to what you mentioned which of these 2 screen then would you recommend?

I don't have any personal experience between the two. If I were making the choice I'd go BenQ.

If you decide to buy one, get it from a store with a good return policy - you might not find this panel acceptable.

The LG 24GM77 is the best of the cheap 24" options. The VG248QE is an abysmal monitor, and while the XL2411Z is PWM free unlike the VG248QE and cheap 144hz Acer GN, it still has poor colours and contrast. Best 144hz Monitors. I'm not aware of any detailed Acer XB240H reviews and it uses a perceived black depth ruining glossy black bezel, so I would pick the AOC G2460PG (it has a nice matte grey bezel) over the XB240H and XL2420G, and use the money saved to buy a 23-24" IPS/PLS panel for movies and console use.

Hello NCX and thanks for taking the time to reply to me, I was planning purchasing Acer Predator XB240H 24 Rather then the BenQ XL2420G 24, I can see from your link that you have rated Acer Predator XB270HA on the top of the list. But my problem is that I don't wish to buy a 27 inch in 1080p as I think the pixel density might be too low at this screen size and resolution, so my question is if the XB240H 24 is the same level of quality as the 27 inch version as I can't find any review about it online.

Thanks once again for every ones assistance so far

The Acer XB270HU (27" 1440p AHVA) is my top pick, not the XB270HU which uses a 1080p TN panel. The G2460PG is cheaper than the XB240H, should offer very similar performance, and has a nice rationally designed bezel.
