Pretty simple question I bet compared to a lot of issues in here. And sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum!

I need a new external harddrive. Budget is around 150-200 USD (Higher is acceptable with good reasons). Requirements:

- High stability
- Low noice
- 250 GB or there abouts should be more then sufficient
- Easy plug and play. (Be able to interact with most stuff with out any real issues)

It's for a couple of grand parents, and the guy who will be using it mainly is not a computer geek (Hence the "easy" requirement). It's going to be mainly used for storing movies, and connecting it to a TV to watch them. Thanks in advance!
 
I would get a WDC elements 2.5 inch drive that works without needing a power brick. Make sure you format it for ntfs or exFat to support larger than 4GB files.

Thanks for the reply. I have good experience with WDC so I was leaning towards something like that. Guess I'll go with that one then. Thanks for the help!
 
About the file system, check to see what the TV is able to read.

Also, will it be used to backup things from a computer (family photos, things like that) or is that already taken care of ?

I'm not sure actually. He asked me for a external harddrive they could plug to their TV and watch movies. So I believe that's pretty much what it's going to be used for only. Why do you ask?
 
Because a lot of people don't think about backups, until they're screwed.

That's true. Me included! But, starting to work something out. Just not exactly sure what's a easy and good way to do it. Anyways, I asked him yesterday, and he of course couldn't say it would NEVER be used for anything else. So it might be used as some kind of back up or something in the future, but as of right now, the movies will be its only use.
