New environment migration

Just wanting to get thoughts from much more experienced and talented people than myself.

Our current VM environment is 3 hosts with a shared SAN that utilizes two brocade switches for the SAN fabric which is just secondary pathing. We are migrating to 3 new hosts and a new SAN with two new brocade switches.

We will be creating a new vCenter cluster during this migration. So my thought process goes 1) add new SAN to existing cluster, 2) storage vMotion off old SAN, 3) decommission old SAN, 4) blow up old vCenter cluster, 5) create new vCenter cluster with old and new hosts and then 6) vMotion VM's from old hosts to new hosts by placing them in maintenance mode and then removing them from the cluster.

Obviously there's a lot of other stuff going on but does that pattern of dealing with the storage migration first and then the host migration second make sense?

Couple ways to do it.

I would spin up the new environment completely, vCenter, hosts, SAN / Datastores, etc.

Join old hosts to the new vCenter in a second cluster, they'll abandon the old one when you try this

Power off all VMs, right click on them and go to migrate, you can dump them on the new storage and new hosts at the same time.

I really should know this part but you might have to present the new LUN's / Datastores to the old servers temporarily.... I think cold migrations will go over the management network if need be though... i think.

Decom all the old stuff.
