Er, well I'll try to keep this story of good fortune short(ish).

So one evening last week I was cruising the NewEgg video cards section noting the various degrees of price gougery when I saw something curious. A refurbished BBA x800pro OEM for ~$410 with free shipping....why the hell not? If anything It'll just be the cost of shipping to return if its a lemon plus a bit of a restocking fee. F it, I went for it. Buyer's remorse be damned, I want the new shinny!!

So yesterday it arrived. Upon close inspection, I noticed the sticker with the P/N numbers stating it was a x800 pe xt.

.....Hmm must be a typo. So I enter the PN # into ATI's product identifier.....x800 pe xt....Hmmm can't be. I do a little bit of research and find that only the xt's have the rage theatre chip....Hmmm, well, its on the back there...Rage Theatre. It appears genuine, must be somthing wrong with it then, I mean who the feck returns a functioning x800 xt? Odd, NewEgg doesn't list it (x800xt BBA) on the site. wtf?

I get off work and get home to install this mofo. Having set it up properly, (I even used the grounding leash, what a nub) anticipation rose when I went to power it up. No signal to moniter, fan on card seems to run but no signal...Hmm might be a lemon.

Or maybe.....Calling on my oldschool experience with NES games, I blew on each connector from moniter and card. I shit you not, it worked.

FarCry looked and played like I imagined it was intended, smooooth. I'd give a '03 score but it seems to crash randomly before it can complete, I'll have to investigate that one.

So it appears NewEgg sent me a functioning x800xt for far less than what they're asking for simalar cards, Karma maybe, for price hurting their loyal customers? Bungled inventory and shipping more likely.

Where do you think it came from? Who'd in their right mind not Ebay it instead of returning it?

And fer feck's sake, its running at 70c?! That's normal for this card on cat 4.7's?

Sorry the long post, I had no one else to tell who'd understand :( ie 'What's a VideoCard?'

To be honest,I wouldn't be thinking about how or why I'd be enjoying the great gaming. The X800 Pro VIVO's have the Rage Theatre Chip also by the way, they're the ones you have a chance to soft mod into a full blown XT.I just got my X800 Pro yesterday and it's great,I could only imagine what you think of your XT you only paid $410 for.I only paid $315 for mine and couldn't be happier with it.Anyways, enjoy the XT you lucky son of a gun.

The temp's could be cause of the Cat 4.7's, I've heard others mention those drivers heated up thier newer cards.

As for your luck, that's great and I hope the card remains stable and ass kickin' for ya. One thing you might wanna look into though, and this is just my conspiracy theory ways, is that your card might have been returned for a reason. Some1 might have tried to flash that x800Pro to an XT and it partially failed giving them artifacts or random crashes. I'd check it out. But I hope for the best. Enjoy your new card.

O and use ATItool and see how many active pipelines you got, that'll tell ya right there.

you know, they have humans working in their warehouses....that put the product on the shelves, which means things will get messed up from time to time. I work at officemax, do we put stuff where it belongs? lol no....theres 9200SE cards in the 5.1 sound card spots, you're just a lucky bastage ;)

what probably happened is, because newegg has yet to have any pe's for sale yet, they finally got them into their warehouse, took one out of the box for pictures for the website, packed it back up and marked it up as the wrong thing, and since it was opened had to be marked down as refurbished. this means that 1.) you are teh winnar! and 2.) that they should be going on sale for the rest of us lowly mortals soon :)

Being photographed and repacked sounds plausable. I had thought about it being a failed mod attempt too at first but why forge the sticker? And being a refurbished item thats unavailable through NewEgg just doesn't add up.

I just can't believe the luck, shit like this doesn't happen to me and I'm half expecting the capret to be pulled out from under me with NewEgg calling and telling me I'd have to send it back (out of my cold dead hand they'd have to take it).

Thing about it is, I added it to my cart and went to drink a beer and think about if it was worth it or not. I decided it wasn't and removed it and went to sleep. I woke up 2 hours later with this feeling that I was gonna regret not getting it. So I went back and grabbed it.

Just a lucky bastard I guess, now watch, I'll get hit by a car or lightning.

I don't know about the rest of you, but if I installed a new video card and had it crash when running 3D'03, the card would be RMAed faster than my C32 ///AMG goes from 0-60mph.

Yeah, real smart. RMA a card that was obviously intended to be a Pro, and risk getting a Pro back in return just because the thing won't run a piece of shit benchmark.

If it works for prolonged periods in all your games, don't worry about it.

LOL. You think that 3D'03 will be the ONLY program that will crap out? Perhaps. Yet, the chances favor further problems unless this is driver related. Hmmm. If it were driver related, we'd already be hearing about the problem in the forums and across the net. So, that leaves his specific configuration. Perhaps he needs a clean OS install to fully test. If after a clean OS install all works, then :) . If all doesn't work, then he has a ticking time-bomb of a card  .

I agree totally with AAC. If the card starts to falter, RMA IMMEDIATLY. A super fast broken card is worse than a little slower working card. Duh

Congrats on getting that card. Seems luck is with you for now atleast. ;) I would just wait untily your games start to malfunction before you go off RMAing the card.

Ebay that thing ASAP. Then buy a 6800 GT and pocket the $300 difference.

Its strange, both 03 and aquamark go through almost all the tests then crash out on the last one each. O3 just exits to the desktop, aquamark gives me an error about memory writing to a nonaccesible area. I'm not totally hung up on benchmarks but having them both not work is not cool at all.

Games, however (FarCry, ut04, rtcw/et, thief3) all run smooth with no problems at all for hours on end. Which is what counts.

A clean install might not be such a bad idea, Its been probably over a year, with every driver version from 3.2 up. Guess that'll be the deciding factor as to the fate of this here card.

Or Ebay the card, then buy a vivo X800 PRO and soft mod it to a PE XT and pocket the difference. ;)

Very odd that benchmarks crash it. I wonder if one section of the GPU is in someway corrupted (a specific function not used in FarCry). Try the clean OS install to test further.
