I ordered a Dell Inspiron 530s with the e2160 from the Dell Outlet today. I should have it up and running next weekend. I'm going to run the SMP client with the diskless CD. My Dell Dimension E521 running the Windows SMP client is producing 800 PPD. I'm estimating I'll get 1K PPD out of the new machine. Sound about right? Anybody out there with the same system that can give me some pointers on how to get the most out of it? FYI, I'm not into overclocking, pad mods, etc. Thanks.

 
Pad mod the bugger and you can get 1600 out of it. :D

Sadly the true power of the machine will never be seen.

If it is a dedicated folder and your not going to use it for something else, why not OC it? You wont lose a main PC or important data.

Of course the only computer in my house that is not OC-ed is my lappy, so I'm a bit biased :p

 
I'd like to keep it as close to stock as possible since I may need to eventually use it for other things. I don't want to void the warranty either. I was going to go with a barebones setup and play around with overclocking but the price was too good to pass up. Until I figure things out, it's going to start it's life off as a dedicated folder. I've been reading about some issues with NICs on Dell Inspirons not working with the latest diskless CD. Would I be better off running the Windows SMP client with the Affinity Changer software? I have a feeling the diskless CD won't work and I'll need to use either Windows or Ubuntu instead.

 
I always forget about warranty's. I haven't had one on a computer since..... hell I was in middle school and my dad purchased a Pentium Pro 200mhz :p

 
I got the new Dell today. The latest version of the notfred CD worked perfectly. It's cranking away right now on a 2605 for 1075PPD. Woohoo!!!
