Here's what I'm working with so far, think you guys could recommend me a CPU and PSU to complete things? I've got maybe, oh, an other five - six hundred to play with. Maybe a little more if I wait one more week or two to start ordering.

Motherboard seems unnecessarily expensive.

I'd pick out a 600-800W Enermax/Corsair PSU personally.

The base i7 920 is still more than enough CPU for now and into the foreseeable future, and generally a good value.

Soundcard is incredible expensive, most motherboards have good audio onboard these days, specific features you want? If your wanting it for gaming, hardware accelerated openAL, the X-Fi XtremeGamer is really the only reasonable choice and it's far less expensive. You'll also be able to wire up your front panel connectors.

Hate to sound like a broken record, but it would be helpful if we knew what this computer was for, whether or not you plan to overclock, your proximity to a Micro Center or Fry's, and your monitor resolution.

I plan on adding two more of that same video card in the coming months, so I need the slots on the motherboard, that's why I'm going with that one.

It's being designed as an ati eyefinity 3*1920x1200 Crisys killer (which pretty much means it will destroy any other game that's fool hearty enough to fall onto its hard drive, om nom nom, etc).

As for the sound card, I'll never buy an other Creative product because they're assholes to the opensource community (and then there was that embarrassing debacle involving the lawsuit against the man who was releasing driver updates that he did himself because Creative was dropping the ball for numerous issues. Instead of a thank you, he got litigation.)

Thread's getting way off topic now though ;)

Purpose stated, does that change the psu/cpu recommendations?

Edit: I'll likely overclock the hell out of it (doing water cooling), but I want the proc to be a killer with stock settings. In other words, I'm not looking at the OC as a way to lower the price; I don't want to get a slower one and then OC to my target numbers. I'm looking at it as an extra.

You'll want a 1000W+ PSU.

Go for one from Enermax.

CPU depends on how much you want to spend obviously, there aren't many choices. You've got the 920, 940, 950, 960, 965, 975.... sooo take your pick.

You might also consider:

239.99 Corsair 1000HX

Regarding the CPU, it really depends on your answer to this question: Do you think there will be a noticeable performance difference between 4.2GHz and 4.6GHz? Because you might be able to eek a bit more out of an Extreme Edition CPU, but I would bet you couldn't tell the difference in a blind taste test. But hey, I don't have $1000 to blow. :D

if you're really gonna build a build that extreme

you might as well wait for the 6 cores coming out in april and spend a grand on that processor

since you're willing to spend money like water, a grand for the processor is pocket change for you

Thanks for the heads up on the six core proc, does anyone know if that will be the same socket? Will I be able to just swap out for that in a few months with my existing motherboard (I'll just ebay my current proc)

it will be 1366 as well

but seriously all that's a huge waste of cash, because there's so little that will come close to taking full advantage of your setup, that's like taking a sledgehammer to kill a fly

but it's your money bro

ANY high end Eyefinity setup with high settings will saturate his rig, if not bring it to its knees.

That right there is exactly why I'm going over the top. That is a lot of pixels to push, and I don't want to see frame drop. I can have choppy gameplay for free on my current rig, I don't want to drop a shit load of money on a new one and have the same problem when I try doing Eyefinity.
