New Comp on the Cheap!

Hello

After some long and careful thought I have decided to not even bother upgrading my current comp and instead buy parts for a new one. The thing of it is I need to buy one cheap and I need to be able to play games with it. As in doom 3 and the others that are coming out soon ;-).

If anyone would help me out and look over my parts it would be greatly appreciated. I'll be buying most of this stuff through ebay but whatever I can't get there I'll buy from newegg.

Check out my list here: http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishList.asp?position=HISTORY&submit=VIEW&ID=900857
As you might notice there are some important parts missing from that list. I plan to move some stuff from my current box over. Those items are: ATI 9600 pro, Audigy 2, Wireless network card, and another 80gb hd.

Oh and I might change out the case. If anyone knows a good case for that price or less that doesn't have a window let me know.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

AssRock ;)

looks like a pretty good system for cheap. i would go for a dvd burner and a bigger hard drive, but that is just me

good luck with it :)

how good is the sis 755 chipset in the $77 price range? Is there anything more mainstream (faster) for less than $80?

Well, I like ASRock, so you're good with it. They're pretty reliable I would say, especially for a budget mainboard.

i have no experience with them, so i'd say go with an Asus or an Abit or an MSI board...but if you're confident w/ that, then okay, i just don't know if it can OC at all...

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I noticed that the mobo I picked had 6 rear usb ports. Originally I thought this was pretty spiffy. But now I'm wondering how I'm to fit that into the case. All the cases I'm looking at seem to be built around 2 or 4 usb ports max. Am I going to have to cut into the metal here?

Hopefully they'll include a new I/O panel in the retail box for ya.

No, you don't need to cut metal. Simply pop-out the existing I/O panel on your case, then pop-in the new one they ought to send you that will match your new back panel.

And no, that wasn't a silly question.

GL :)

even if they dont send you a Io sheid, you can pop the old on and still use the computer without a io sheild. :D

It should have an I/O panel for you. As for the hard drive, I'd see if you can get one with a discount in a store like Best Buy or Fry's or Circuit City. I saw an 80GB with rebate for $39, so that is a few bucks saved.

I have experience with them. They are good. ASRock has an IO panel included also. The ASRock is definitely built for the entry market and to my experience they are mildy overclockable. 2500+ to 3200+ stable no problem really. The best it could go for with a couple of crashes is 3500+. And I will reveal a hidden secret about ASRock...
