im going to be getting a new screen soon, either 19" or 20" LCD screen. my current 9600XT is OCd a bit but it cant really play newer games like CoD WoW HL2 etc at 1280 or higher w/ decent aa/af and the high quality that i like to see. the problem is im running a 2600+ AMD and im not going to get a new mobo or cpu or anything right now. the question is, would an X800XT be greatly limited by the CPU as compared to say, an X800Pro? im virtually certain i want ATi because im going to be doing a lot of HL2 and CS:S soon once it arrives on monday. id like to be able to play things at least at 1280 w/ highest quality settings. but im concerned that getting an X800XT and spending the extra 80 or so dollars on it wouldnt be justified due to my relatively slow CPU. what do you guys think?

Well since your upgrading why not try and get a new setup.. your going to anyhow from the sounds of it..

Thats how it started for me anyhow... Bought a X800 and then a week later built a new system. so you might as well save on shipping and get it all at once.

Everyone is to some degree limited by there Cpu. Upgrading your card will definately allow you to crank up the resolutions in games. I play all games at 1600x1200 since I upgraded. I would recommend the XT over the Pro, it worth the extra money. You could save yourself the extra cash by going with a X800pro Vivo and softmodding it. That's what I did, simple process, big results.

Just 4 info, can all x800Pro Vivo be succesfully modified to XT? Or its same shit as in 9800SE, some gut, some bad?

well obviously the XT would be better than the pro, but since my cpu is relatively slow would i be able to actually use an XT to its fullest potential? also, what kind of risks are you taking when you softmod an X800Pro? if it doesnt work what will happen? is it ruined?

edit: also, is it true that if you get an X800XT you can get it to PE speeds by just OCing the core and memory? or do you have to softmod that w/ a PE bios? thanks.

x800XT PE is just clocked x800XT.

PE - core/ram @ 540/1120
XT - core/ram @ 500/1000

Even AMD's newest Cpu the Fx-55 isnt utilizing the XT or Ultra to thier fullest potential. Yes, the XT PE is simply an overclocked XT. To my knowledge everyone that has a X800pro~Vivo and performed the softmod was able to unlock the extra 4 pipes. The only problem people have been running into is not reaching XT PE speeds of 520/560. The ration seems to be more or less 70% yes, 30% no. The rule of thumb when looking into increaing gaming performance is 1st upgrade the graphics card, 2nd the Cpu, third memory.

alright cool thanks. also, is it possible to stably OC the core/mem on an X800XT with air? but nobody has yet answered my question...would getting an X800XT be overkill or not?

I dont know about the OC, but you could stably CLOCK it, yes.

U have users written with what GPU's and CPU's, and what clocks. Only few are high end GPU's. I mostly see OC's with h2o cooling though.

Vodno means Water Cooled.
Zracno means Air Cooled.

overkill means would it be too much, would it be not worth getting because my cpu isnt very fast.
