I just put together a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R / i7-920 with Raptor SATA1 and WD Black 1TB SATA2 drives.

CPU Qeuestion:
It defaulted to clock x15, so I bumped it up to x20 (2.66GHz). Left everything else auto and not changed till I start overclocking. Is this all teh settings I need to change for Default speeds on a i7-920?

Loading Time Question:
Loading Windows 7 x64 and it takes forever to get through the screens. I see the bar go across like normal "loading windows files", then the W7 background comes up and stays there for 5-10 minutes. Then, I see the language selection screen with NEXT. I click that and it waits for another 5 minutes. Then it starts loading the files.

I tried this with different bios settings for the drives. (with AHCI and IDE, both took the same amount of time)

With my other W7 loads on other PCs, this didn't take any time at all. Do you know what my issue might be?

Windows went on fine after that. I have CD-ROM and HD eneabled for boot. Not sure what was taking so long on the W7 pre-load screens.

i had the same thing happen to me, and read about it happening to plenty of others. Installation 'froze' on that weird blue/light trippy screen for ~10 minutes, then continued fine.

same problem here.

I had a strange unbootable system problem yesterday that forced me to finally give up and format, before that I tried some things through the win7 dvd repair options (fixmbr, rebuildbcd, etc) with no luck, and had to wait like you did many times which I remember doing when I first installed win7 about 8 months ago.

I tried the Vista x64 DVD (for another reason not for the waiting time) and the same exact thing happened with the waiting time.

i'm not sure but I think it didn't happen with Vista 32bit version.
