Just purchased a new AMD 3400 (socket 754) and chaintech VNF3-250. I replaced my current mobo/cpu with the new ones and the rest of the parts (cdrom, hd, vidcard, etc) are what I currently have.

When I hit power the fans spin 2-4 seconds then stop. No post, no beep, no nothing. I tried a dif vidcard, switched out ram, etc. Put in my old cpu/mobo and here I am typing. Any thoughts?

I bought the cpu/mobo in the FS/FT thread and was assured by the seller AWOL that the parts are brand new but he tested for me and said they posted. Could it be possible the chip is bad or mobo? Im going to look up these symptoms in google, but any help is greatly appreciated.

My PSU is an Antech 380w TRUE power supply, so I'm sure it should have enough juice running with my 9800np.

It most likely isn't the RAM because I've installed RAM that wasn't on the compatability list on numerous occasions and had no problems.

I'm sure you know that you have to reinstall windows(or do a search for the thread on how to upgrade your mobo without reinstalling windows), but the computer should still post.

If you put your old MOBO and CPU in and you're having no problems, and you tried different RAM, video card, etc, then that would point to your new MOBO and CPU being the culprits.

Well not different ram, let me rephrase. I have 2 sticks and I tried removing 1 stick and then to rule out a bad stick of RAM. Unfortunately, myself and my friends all use the same RAM so I cant try a different brand. Im trying to clear the CMOS now.

I sold MoggSquad the motherboard and CPU combo.

Since they were new parts, I did do a quick test of the CPU and board before shipping them to him. No in depth testing, but I did make sure it POST'd and I went in to the BIOS and set the date & time. (The last thing I want to do is waste his & my time shipping bad parts back and forth.)

I tested with the following: (all pulled from my system, except for the new power supply):

HEC 300W ATX12V power supply
Built-By-ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB AGP
(One) Kingston ValueRAM DDR400 512MB
Generic PS/2 keyboard & mouse attached via Belkin 4 port KVM

Board was sitting on top of it's box, not mounted in a case. Nothing else was attached. No floppy, no front panel USB, no PC speaker.

I'm working with MoggSquad via email, helping him diagnose the problem. I'm hoping it's something simple he's overlooking. (Admit it, we've all done it! :))

Awol
