So I just put my new system together consisting of the following and I can't get a POST.

AMD 64 3000+
1Gig Kingston HyperX 3200 (Bh5)
AOpen A86K Mb
GF4 Ti 4400
Seagate 80Gig SATA Hd

When switched on everything gets power, disk drives spin up, fans come on, but nothing on the screen at all. I have verified that the monitor and video card both work in other PC's. I have removed all peripherals one at a time to verify that nothing is broken. I've even cleared the BIOS several times, but nothing works. What could be my potential mistakes or problems?

Is the vid card, memory, cpu properly seated? Is the HSF connected to the mobo header? If not, do yopu have the CPU HSF header disabled on the mobo? uh..... Bad cpu???? That'd be pretty much everything I'd check. Other than that I don't know what to say...

What kind of power supply are you using? More importantly, how many Amps does it give on the +12V rail?

It's pretty likely that your mobo requires _2_ power connections. There'll be the standard ATX one and then antoher 4 pin square connector (excuse my lack of proper lingo).

Make sure both are connected and snapped in?

Problem somewhat solved. I had done everything mentioned above. The problem was with the ram. For some reason it doesn't like two sticks. I tried various configurations but it would only work with one stick, regardless of which one (both sticks will work seperately). I am hoping that a BIOS update will fix the problem seeing that I shelled out over $200 for memory alone. If an update doesn't work it looks like I'll be ditching the AOpen board for something else.

Anyone else have any similiar problems with a 64bit board?

Had a similar problem with a completely different board (in sig). A BIOS flash cured it. I figure companies are only testing a few major brand components and then playing catch up on improving their compatibility with BIOS updates after they release their product.

Another thing check your mobo's web page they can have funky configurations for memory. And I am diggin my A64 welcome to the club. :)

Thanks guys, I'll look into the BIOS update and cross my fingers. It's wierd that it won't even post or display any output with two sticks.

Now I'm having problems with XP install. I am getting the following error:

IRQL_LESS_THAN_EQUAL

I thought that it might be a memory issue seeing that I had the auto detection settings for my HyperX. I changed timings to 2-2-2-6 but I still get the same error. I haven't updated the BIOS yet because I wanted to get XP installed first. Do I have my mem settings correct?

CL - 2.0
tRC - default
tRFC - default
tRCD - 2
tRRD - 2
tRAS - 6
tRP - default
tWR - deault
tWTR - default
tRWT - default
tREF - default

I kind of anticipated some memory issues due to the high performance low latency stuff combined with a brand new motherboard and cpu. Any thoughts?

Anyone?

I corrected my memory settings for precharge but the error persists. I also just realized that the flash utility for my mb only works in windows. Where can I get a compatible utility to use off of a bootdisk? I have a feeling that if I could just get my BIOS updated all of my troubles would be solved.
