Hey guys, just got a XFX 4890 XXX Edition, 900/975 clock stock. Loaded up 3dmark06 and here is the result.

17134

2.0 - 6795
3.0 - 7826
CPU - 5061

Seems rather low to me? This is with fresh Catalyst 9.7 drivers.

its actually not to bad.. most people have been avging around 15000 from what ive seen.. ATI cards do not do good at all on 3dmark so its not a good representation to how well the card does since ATI doesnt use physX..

I thought 3dmark06 did not use physX?

your probably right.. i think vantage is the one that uses it.. i quit running the 3dmark programs a long time ago so i cant remember.. they have lost their usefulness for benchmarking gfx cards.. but the score still looks like its within the norm for that setup..

SilverSliver, I'd start to wonder if your CPU is holding you back for 3dmark. As long as it performs well in games, it's fine.

thats 4k higher than my score :(

well i decided just to check since i know the phenom II 940 is about as fast as the q9550 clock for clock.. so i ran 3dmark06

score:
sm2.0: 6495
HDR/sm3.0: 6264
cpu score: 5248

phenom II 940 @ 3.5ghz..

so my guess would be that your cpu is holding you back for some reason when it comes to the cpu score.. though im not sure why..

but like radeon said.. if its gaming fine.. theres nothing to worry about since 3dmark06 is cpu bound anyways unless you run it at 1920x1200 or higher resolution during the test..

Thats about where I was at with a GTX285 and Q6600 at 3.6. If you can push that CPU harder you will see a better gain around 3.8-4.0. Run 3dmark03 to see a gain in GPU power if you want to compare a new card to your older one as its the most GPU speed dependent.

My motherboard is holding back my overclock. It's unstable at any voltage over 400FSB. Last DFI board I'll ever buy.

Here is a Single GTX 285 at FTW speeds not even pushed hard, usually at 790+mhz core speed. This is with a q9550 at 4000mhz and DDR2.

We're talking about 3DMark 06... not 05...

SLI GTX260 Core216's got about 25k in 3DMark06... w/ I7 920 @ 4.0ghz

My bad I was on 05 mode :p
Here is my 06 runs with SLI 285 at stock speed and a q9550 at 3950mhz, Damn you core i7's on 3dmark06 runs :D I would like to clock my cards to 790+ and run at 4000mhz to see how it fairs against the i7 runs you guys are putting up. I dont think the q9550 has the clock for clock compared to i7's, probably take me 4200mhz to hit a 25K.

yikes i thought SLI'd 285's could out 3dmark a 4870x2

edit: MANIST, do you realize you have the lowest score out of everyone that submitted one with a system like yours?

Thats where the core i7 shines in 3dmark05 and 3dmark06 from being such a cpu bound bench test, makes my 4000mhz q9550 tuck its tale in defeat:D
Bring on the 3dmark03 runs to compare gpu power :D:cool::D
My best on 03 is 102,302 on SLI285's
Vantage show a lack of CPU power with only a 27,300 :(

Seeing some of the sales on these 4890's and there ease of huge clocks and good scores makes me want to pick one up to play with.

seems normal to me, about what i got with one oced 4890 and a q6600 at 3.5

got a 16x x 16x mobo and added a second 4890 and only get about 19500, Def cpu limited

Kardonxt - perhaps you should try running 3DMark 06 at higher resolution other than the default 1280x1024.

It is due to the Agena core you are running. 3DMark is heavily CPU dependent as well, and your 3D score looks right at least, just that the CPU score pulled down your overall score.

Just ran Vantage. Did a bit of an overclock. 950/1100.

Vantage -- 11868

3d06 -- 17602

Not too shabby IMO now.

Weird, SilverSurfer I am also using a q9550 @ 3.8 Ghz with 2x Diamond 4850s in crossfire. I get at least 20.5k when running 3dmark06. Not using a huge overclock on the 4850s either, I think they're at 660/1050 each.

Oh, I got similar scores with my 4850 Crossfire setup as well, before one of the cards died. I wanted to have a stronger single card set-up, was tired of multi-card.

Getting about 16.7K with the specs in sig. The OP's system seems to be scoring about right.

You should go into your properties and set all your little sliders to High Performance and drop AA and AF and such, though. Leaving it on Quality can perserve IQ but drop your score quite a bit.

Probably could just barely crack 20K in 06 with another 4890 but this video card already plays most everything I run like a dream, and it's promising to get even faster yet with the new batch of video cards due out by the end of the year.
