new 4850 - why low score 3DMARK 06 ?

That does seem somewhat low but not too bad.

E8400 (3.6GHz) and 4850: 11455 3DMarks

3.2 GHz Quad and 4850: 13154 3DMarks

Note that 3DMark 06 isn't one of the 4850's strong points. The 9800GTX beats it by a significant marigin. On my CPU limited system, the 4850 and 8800GT (factory overclocked) perfom almost identically (think there was a 40 3DMark difference). Also it's an outdated benchmark that only runs at 1280x1024 no AA or AF by default. It's also not a real game. I get 10042 3DMarks on my system. With the CPU @ stock I got ~8900 3DMarks. I have not overclocked my 4850.

That score is normal, I got 12130 with the system in my sig. The strength of the 4800 series is higher res w/ AA, you get little gain at 1280x1024.

question ....

in CCC (8.7) i did that profile things change to manual and 40% fan ....
" C:\Documents and Settings\yy.YY\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\Profiles\yyy.XML "
but how do i make it that it's not steady on 40% ? i want it to be on 40% idle (desktop use) and when i load a game that it will be 60% ...

?

Asking totally unrelated questions in another's thread is hijacking.

Try leaving the algorithm as "automatic" and set the percent target to 60. In theory it will adapt the fan speed depending on conditions up to a maximum speed of 60%.
