I just bought a sata 300gb HDD and I'm trying to install windows xp pro but it's only showing a HDD size of 130gb. I've gone through the intire install and updated with SP1 & 2 and it still says 130gb. I formatted the drive again so it's ready for another install.

I feel kinda stupid for having this issue but can anyone help?

My motherboard is a Biostar GF7025

What he said. :)

When you installed XP originally, your pre-SP1 disc only saw and prepared 130GB. Adding SP1 to the mix means Windows will recognize the full 300GB, but you've already created a 130GB partition- you can go into Windows' Disk Management utility and make another partition with the rest, but that'll create a D: partition with the rest of your info. If that's too annoying, you can either slipstream an XP disc with SP1/SP2, or get yourself a copy of Partition Magic and expand the partition after installing all the updates.

Can we get a mod to make a stickey thread that says my XX HDD only reads 130GB. Did a seach in the past year on number of times this questioon is asked...it is scary. :p

Actually.. you should need to use partition magic to expand the drive after installing SP1 or SP2.. why even install SP1.. go straight to SP2.

Anyway.. back on topic... if you just use partition magic or another program that can format the whole 300GB in the first place, XP should be able to see it fine during install.

It is an issue with the pre-SP1 partition program and possibly the format utility.
