Does anyone know if the new Nehalem works with a single or two memory sticks? Or does it need three sticks to work at all?
 
It works with what ever you put in there. It works just like dual channel memory in the terms of memory configurations. All it is is now you have an extra option for a triple memory configuration as well.
 
1,2,3,4,and 6 sticks are allowed. 5 is theoretically possible, but not with identical sticks.

Dual channel is much faster on nehalem then it is on core 2.
Much faster. I'm running my ram at nearly 2/3 of the speed and it's smoking my old everest.

This is probably mostly due to the new integrated memory controller. Much lower latency. ;)

Well you'll want to check what the RAM is spec'ed for voltage wise. You do not want to run your memory voltage above 1.65v if you can avoid it.

You will need DDR3 though, so unless you already have a kit of it that isn't listed in your sig, you'll need to buy new RAM anyway.

I've got a kit from when I still had my P5E3 Premium. I sold that board in anticipating of getting a Nehalem system. Whether I can afford it when it launches remains to be seen.
