I've got a dell (poor me) it sucks (naturally) so ive been playing w/ a new system

Case: Thermaltake Xaser V Wingo comes w/ fans
PSU: 480w Powmax Demon or Thermaltake Slent PurePower 420w
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+
Motherboard: ?
Hard Drive: 250 GB (Not sure on Brand)
Optical: DVD-ROM (I alredy own a DVD+RW)
Memory: 1GB Kingston HyperX (or Corsair)
GPU: 256mb ATI Radion 9800 Pro

Any help or suggestions would be nice...
If these ideas seem pricey for the record my parent arent rich nor am i spoiled ive been saving (and working my butt off) for about a year to purchise these parts...
 
looks pretty nice, but if you want you can wait and get the new GPU's from ati or nivida
 
Looks very nice. If it was me, here's the changes I'd make.

Memory: 1GB PC3200 Corsair
GPU: ATI x800 XT PE
 
Depending on what you want to spend - alter the above to an X800Pro (329 at fry's check Hotdeals forum) and I would suggest a hitachi 7K250 250GB based on the reviews and research done at storagereview.com
and if you don't get an X800 or better for the GPU then just go with the 128MB 9800Pro with the 256bit memory interface.
 
Looks very good. Should be a very nice set-up.

BUT! im not sure if you want to fork over the money for the 3800+..... or if a 3500$ would be better. that's about a 200$US diffrence.... is the 5fps worth it for 200$? i leave that up to you. and if you decide that IT IS worth it...... i recommend you consider the AMD FX-53 939pin... its about 100$ more, and will yield a better performance then the 3800+ in general.

Corsair XMS, kingston, or Muskin are all good choices.... when you say 1gb, do you mean 2x512 so that you can get the benifite of Dual Channell? might be worth it to get a paired set of ram.

video card, you decide. 9800pro is an awsome card for the price, but going with a x800 would also be fine.

as for hard drive, western digital and seagate are my two favriots. Someone recommended a raptor, and this is a very good hard drive (5 year warranty!!!), lol, get 2 74gb Raptors in raid 0 and you will be a happy little camper ^_^ (pun intended).

as for the motherboard... if your looking at the 939, there's not many out there right now. The asus A8V deluxe looks to be a very good choice right now (even though it looks horrible in my opinion).

All in all though, your set-up looks very good!
