i am looking into buying a sff pc.
my current system
lian li pc-75 (one reason i'm down sizing)
ATI radeon 9800 pro
amd xp 2500 @ 2.2ghz
asus a7n8x deluxe
Thermaltake 420w
audigy 2 ZS
1024 mb giel pc-3200
w.d. 80 8mb cache 7200 rpm
seagate 120 8mb cache 7200 rpm

the second reason i'm downsizing is that i'm going to college soon and i want a small but powerful computer. i want a 64 bit processor.

i was thinking on getting a shuttle model or this case

what shuttle case would you suggest? or do you like that monarch hornet case?

another question is what 64bit processor should i get? i have around 1000 dollars to spend
plus the money i get for selling off parts off my current system.

All the red parts should be tansfered to the other rig.

Antec Aria - Case - $100
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ - cpu - $300
BFG 6800 ultra OC - graphics card - $500


That leaves you with roughly $100 for a motherboard of your choice.
 
what micro-atx 64bit motherboard do you suggest? remember i'm in the market for performance

thanks for the motherboard suggetsion. I notice that your aria has a side fan. What size is it and do you have it as an exhaust or intake? also what is your cooling configuratoin i.e. 2 80mm intake 1 120mm exhaust... ? i'm pretty interested in the aria

EDIT: friends of mine said that it's worth getting a socket 939 motherboard is this true? and if it is are these 2 motherboards worthwhile?

antec aria is a very ugly case.

i am in college and i have a shuttle which is far mor aesthetically pleasing.

might not seem important to you now, but trust me, it will...
 
I like the looks of the aria.


Also not being forced to buy the board and the case in one package gives you some more options.
 
i agree that the aria is very versatile in terms of what you can choose to put in it, but in all actuality, the footprint is really not that much smaller than a normal case, and it many cases it is also moreso inconvenient due to its large width. in my room, there is no way i could put my computer on the ground, so it has to sit on the desk. an aria would be an incredibly huge presence on an already small desk. i suppose you could place your monitor on top of the box itself, but my setup would not permit me to do that. that also looks cheesy like a highschool library all over again.

i must say, i have gotten complements from various people that have been in my room about the cuteness/smallness of my shuttle.

however i dont know what your room looks like and how much space you will have, so you could have ample space and what i am saying wont even apply in that case
 
today i went to a local computer store, they had an aria, and seeing it in person made me think... it is kinda ugly. so i've desided on the SN25P from shuttle. My question is that do i need to get a pci-e graphics card? i plan on getting the 6800 ulta. Will the power supply be powerful enough to power:
ultra card
2X 7200 rpm harddrives
amd 64 3500 - 3800 (still debating)
cd-rw
audigy 2 ZS

BTW: how is the onboard sound on the SN25P? (2 slot ultra means no sound card or any other pci device)
 
Another reason I reccomended the Aria. (more pci/pce/agp slots available.

Try searching NewEgg for other SFF cases.
 
I would recommend that you do stick with pci-e because it is the future i suppose.
I have a friend using a 6800 ultra (the 1 slot asus agp one) in his shuttle that has a 250w psu, i believe that that new one you listed has the 350w psu, so that wouldnt be a problem.


the 6800ultra is a very nice card but 1 slot cards are very nice too, like an x800xt or x800xl, or even a 6800gt. the performance is still outstanding on all of those cards.

Yes you will need a PCI-e video card. PS is more then enough.
