First let me start off with saying my computer is pretty old and in a nutshell, it sucks. My mom bought it from Gateway years ago. Intel 815 chipset, 384mb ram, and a celeron to top it off. But, I love music and it does the job. I recently bought Logitech 5.1's. Unfortunately when I hooked them up, I only recieved 2.1 sound. So I figured it is time for an upgrade in the sound department. Went out and bought the inexpensive Sound Blaster Live 24bit. After changing my system settings, fully installing the software that came with it, and a drive update, I am still getting only 2.1. When I do the speaker check, all five work, but when trying to play music whether in wmp, or any other application...no luck. So how can this problem be worked out, without me having to blow my computer away with a shotgun which I feel like doing right now. I'll check this thread often to give any info you guys may need. Thank you.
 
What kind of music are you playing? Have you tried the surround tests like this?

 
I must mention that I have windows media player 10, but even when playing music using Creatives software I still only get 2.1.
 
Once again that speaker test works and all 5 work. But not with music.
 
Just like under my user name and the ridiculous specs on my piece, I am a noobie. What exactly is that.
 
CMSS is Creative's method that allows you to simulate surround sound from a two channel audio stream (like MP3s)
 
Mister X that sounds great, but either my IQ is lower than I thought or I need some serious rest...where/how can I access this CMSS? Side note: Thank you for putting up with my 90 year old women-like computer knowledge.
 
Your sound card came with a bunch of other programs other than the drivers. One of these was called the EAX console. One of the settings in the EAX console is called CMSS. Enable it. It will upmix your 2-channel music to make sound come out of all your speakers even though your mp3 is only recorded for two.

If you just installed the drivers off the CD, you'll need to go install this program as well. Otherwise, it's probably in a folder full of other Creative programs. It should also be accessible from the blue speaker icon on your system tray.
