I have to go over to my try and fix my buddy's computer today..... he was checking his email last night when he was done.... he was shutting down windows and instead of waiting for it to shut down by itself, he went and hit the power button... so now it won't boot up for him at all.... and he said he didn't install anything or do anything else but check his email and also he is running windows xp.... so what are some things i could try to get it up and running again? later.

Bring your XP CD unless he has one. You will probably have to repair the OS by booting from the CD and following instructions.
Your not really clear when you say "not booting". Does it post? Does it try to load windows? Is it complaining about a specific file?

well hitting power button should execute a regular shut down sequence... I assume he pressed the button for 5 secs or so...

ok so i went there and check it out.... what it does is it gets to the windows xp logo screen where it is loading windows and then it restarts and keeps doing the same thing.... ummm... i tried using the automated system recovery on the windows xp disk and as soon as it starts it the computer restarts just like when it gets to the windows logo screen.... so what now? thanks.

I'm going to have to agree, I would probably plug in a new PSU and see what it does then.
If you work on it again, try to bring as many spare peices of hardware that you can to swap out.
Remove every peice of hardware that isn't needed for Windows to boot. Try it with only one stick of RAM (if he has more than one installed) at a time, remove any unnessecary devices, etc.
But I'd try a different power supply first.
