Need some desperate help, please
Guys, I need some expert help here

I aquired a few items a few days ago and it seems to not be what I thought it would be. Here are the items

Barton 3200+
1x 512mb hyperx pc4000 ram 8-4-4-3(running at 400, not the 500)
Epox 8rda+

Ok, in my system before this, in which i still have i had a Barton 2500+ with 1gb pc2700, 2x Corsair XMS CMX512-2700C2 (6-3-3-2).

Now, I have the 3200+ and the pc4000 right now, up and running, nothing wrong, but it seems to not be as effecient as the 1gb of pc2700 (333), so I am here to ask should I put the 1gb of pc2700 in with the Barton 3200+ or is this even possible, I am trying to figure out a good way to not spend money on more ram, and I dont mind a slight underclock, but let me know what you guys think.

Need anymore info please let me know

Couple of items of interest.

Runing the ram with a divider on an AXP solution will hamper performance.

Will your Corsair PC2700 run at 200mhz - effective 400ddr?

Can you get tighter timings out of hyperx pc4000? Maybe with an increase in voltage?

If you have both systems there. Just try the other ram out in the new machine. The only thing you have to lose is time. Just mess around and see what works best for you.
 
Well you did go from a gig to a half... It's going to be slower sometimes, even w/ a faster CPU and memory. Some games will happily push your memory allocation over 512MB.

When you were a young child, did you stomp on the ground and scream "I WANT IT, AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!" alot?
 
Why are you even using PC4000 with the Athlon? High speed RAM chips have crappy timings (3-4-4-8 from that HyperX PC4000), and that really hurts the Athlon (very timings dependent).

Also, you did go down to half a gig from a gig, and a lot of games these days are big memory whores (e.g. Battlefield 1942 and vietnam).

The PC2700 would work better, but it'll default to 166 Mhz I think, so your proc will come down to 1.8 Ghz or so. You'll have to somehow eek 200 Mhz out of the RAM, or get PC3200.
