i am planning to build a system on a budget of $700(exclude monitor, and case)
the only thing i absolutly need is a P4 HT other hardwares i can be flexible with. btw i wish to have a 256 mb of video card in the system but the brand and chip doesn't matter. I dont kno much about the mobos so i need some advice on what kind of mobo has the best performance with P4 HT
So please give a suggestion for what specs i should have for the system

Azn, do you have thermal paste for putting the heatsink on the processor?

If not, add 5-10 bucks to that subtotal.
 
Why must you have a 256MB graphics card? A card that can actually utilize the 256MB will run at least $250. Just get a 6600GT for a $700 system. They run around $150. I'd get that Asus board, a 6600GT and get a quality power supply. 256MB graphics boards and HT P4s will be hard to fit into a $700. You should probably consider Athlon 64 since the processors are a better value for this price range.

This just a beginning of the system
i am planning to upgrade after 5 month or so the budget for the project can run up to $1200 (water cool costs alot) but the basic stuff i want to keep it under $800. I do planning to do some overclocking so amd isn't a really good choice. It is very stable but really hard to overclock.(i might be wrong, it just my experience with amd, if you think otherwise please reply)
For the graphic card i dont kno much about it. So i figur may be the more ram the faster and better it run so that's why i wanted a 256 in there. If there is a graphic card that perform the same and is much cheaper i will take that one.
One more thing
THANK YOU VERY MUCH Dillusion for the advice it really give me a jump start. the only thing you forgot is memory. there are 1g rams on newegg that's around 100 but then it would over the budget. Is there any way you could make that under 750 with the ram in it

Why would he need Thermal paste to put a Retail Boxed HSF (which has a Tim) on the cpu??? the total is fine... Honestly who ever drew up that setup for that guy is right on the money... good job. bravo.
