I've narrowed it down to the SENNHEISER HD 497 and the Grado SR60. I will use them for long car trips w/ipod, and gaming/computer listening. Which would you recommend? I really want my cans to be comfotable.
 
Comfort is a very personal matter. Nobody's head and ears have the same geometry. Try them on and see which works best for you.
 
True, comfort is a personal matter...but the Senns are WAY more comfortable. Plus, you said you'll be using them for gaming? Grado's are horrible for this, so stick with the Senns, you'll be much happier considering the requirements you listed.

Trust me, the Senns will crush the Grado's when it comes to positioning.
 
My HD497s are the most comfortable things I've ever worn (ignoring that the other sets have been <$30). They get a little hot (I never knew ears could sweat :D), but they have great sound quality to make up for it. Very adjustable as well.

Iunno, I find the Grados put me in the middle better. I've not gamed with any of the higher end Senns however, but they tend to be more laid back IMO.
 
What Grado's do you have? If it's the 325 (like your sig says), then that's an unfair comparison...;)

indeed I do have the SR325s :)

I've heard the 580s, and the 600s extensively.. and I have a pair of RS85 wireless which despite their being wireless do sound pretty good as long as I don't go too far (yes the SR325s are obviously better but the RS85s were a gift and I can't really say they're that bad either).

When I'm richer I might get something like the 600/650 senns with a good amp, but right now im a poor college student and that's just out of reach/need. And the SR325s are damn good off a good source without needing any extra power. Upgrades will wait until i'm completely self sustaining most likely.

edit: to sum it up you may be right about the <$100 range Grados, I've not listened to them much. So I'll shut up, I totally glossed over the HD497/SR60 info request from the original poster and had to defend my beloved grados like a retarded f4nboy riding a scooter down a hill with no chance of stopping.

Sennheiser 280 pro is teh best. About the same price and huge difference, nice prices on ebay. I gaurentteeeeeeeeeeeee it
 
From personal experience, I own the senn 497s and the alessandro ms-1s

Well, in the categories:

Games: Go with the senns, much better positioning.
Music: Grado sound is a personal favorite (see sig, MS-1 is an equalized SR-125)
Comfort: The senns by FAR
Portability: Not much of a difference
 
I own the 497s and I dont find them to be particularly comfortable.

I've got larger ears so I supposed thats the problem, but whatever the case- they can be uncomfortable.
 
One thing about the 497s. In my experience, I've found that you really need to get the position right in order for them to be reasonably comfortable.

This is very true. However, once you find that position, it's really comfortable. :)
 
As far as comfort goes, I think my Audio Technicas are more comfortable than my HD590s. Might be out of your price range though, and semi-related side note: they're friggin huge.
