my HD 555s broke the other day, so i have suddenly found myself in the market for some new cans. some info about my situation:
setup: audigy 2 soundcard, cheapish Onkyo receiver, sony turntable
durability/comfort: they need to be comfortable for 4+ hours a day, VERY durable construction
uses: a little PC gaming (Fps/rpg), classical, rock of all genres from 70s to 00s, a little electronica here and there
type: open (preferably), circumaural (necessary), so no Grados!
budget: one or two price brackets above the HD 555s, meaning, $200~ limit, but i'm prepared to go slightly higher if there's a truly stellar model to be had that's just above that
i've been looking at a few models, but i'd like more input. the AT A900 and AD900, and Senn HD 580. the main problem with these two is that the Senns are much higher impedance, and i'm not sure if my Onkyo can power them adequately (TX-8211). with the senn, i'd also consider a grill and cabling mod, though this may not happen immediately.
what do you guys think would be the best choice among those, or is there a model i've forgotten? i'd rather not get DT770s because i'm not so huge on bass, and the DT880s are too much (unless there's a good deal somewhere that i missed), so beyer is sort of out of the question for now. Grado too, as i need phones that are comfortable for long periods of time.
