For troubleshooting POST issues, I would like a display with a very fast resolution sync lock. None of my LCDs approach what my old 20"/21" CRTs were capable of in terms of getting a lock on a particular resolution. Heck, my U2711 seems to take up to 10 seconds to lock onto some resolutions. It can be hard seeing POST messages when this happens.

Size/resolution/performance doesn't really matter in this particular case - a hokey 4:3 19" would be just fine, I just want it to lock onto a video signal in < 1 second if possible. Anything that does this?

(Note to the gamers: I am NOT talking about input lag.)

You mean a monitor that switches very quickly between resolutions/refresh rates? If so my older TN panel (LG w2261v) was pretty good at that. I'm pretty sure it was below 1sec (my new IPS panel on the other hand takes ages).

My older LCDs like the VX922 seemed to post much quicker than anything I use today. I could actually see my VGA BIOS initialize :). I never tested it for a difference between DVI and VGA.

In the mean time, you can try an old trick -- use Pause/Break (yes on your kb). It should halt your BIOS and wait for you to hit a key to resume (enter).

Thanks lawless, I did not know that trick. (Or I had forgotten!)

I have been using an old CRT for this purpose but it is on its deathbed and was hoping to replace it was a fast-syncing LCD. Maybe I will take a look at yesterday's displays on craigslist...
