i recently sent in my dead IBM deathstar hard drive for a replacement and a hitachi ''deathstar'' came today. And i installed it on my comp as a slave drive but it wasnt recognized.....i plugged in the right cables and i set the jumpers but no dice....what did i possibly do wrong? Should i try swapping IDE cables? thanks
note: i tried loom for the drive in disk management but the comp doesnt see it

Does the BIOS see the drive? If it's not there at BIOS level Windows is never going to see it. If it is not seen in the BIOS go into your BIOS and verify the channel is enabled. We have a few Dell's at work that flat out refuse to boot if there is no HDD set as a slave and that channel is enabled in the BIOS :( I can't count the times I''ve added a drive and forget to re-enable that channel then wonder why its not seen :p Another thing you could try if the BIOS is configured correctly but it's still not seeing the drive is set the drive to master and take you're main drive out of the loop. All this said assuming this is a secondary drive in the system. If this is the only HDD set it to master and you should be good to go.

ok, i finally solved the problem, i was about to give up and attempted to swap IDE cables as a last ditch effort and it worked.
