need help picking a flat panel

here's the deal, my sister is moving into a new place and it has a built in entertainment system with a motorized backing perfect for a flat panel display. anyways, the display is mainly for watching tv and dvd's and nothing else, no gaming here. her price range is anywhere between $1500-2000 and the bigger the better. i honestly don't know much about the different types of flat panels, so i guess which ones should i be looking at (lcd, plasma, etc.)? also what are some good brands to consider?

Westinghouse 1080p monitors are said to be awesome... I think the 37" is around 2000 or it might be even cheaper...
