Hello all. Newbie here that needs some help.

I just bought a PNY XLR8 Performance Edition GeForce 9800 GT. The problem is, it has a 2 prong power cable, but my computer only has 4 and 6 pronged power cables (PCI Express I think?). Did I buy the wrong video card, or is there an adapter of some sort that I can buy?

Thanks.

It looks to be one of the new versions of the 8800/9800 GT with a smaller pcb. I haven't heard much about these, but I think they use less power than the older versions. It may simply be that it gets enough power from the PCI-E slot and doesn't need a power connector.

Not sure what that 2pin connector is for exactly but it doesn't look like its for powering the card itself. I'd say just pop the card in and try it out, you can't harm anything. The worst that could happen is it'll squeel at you if it doesn't have power.

said on the newegg review no extra power needed. i saw another guy had one of these to...nice that they dont need the extra power.

Yeah, it's the EE (energy efficient) edition version of the card. I have the normal one which takes about 105 watts under load. Your version uses less than 75 watts total.

The only real difference is that the GPU and/or memory should be running at lower clock speeds.
